I want to know if that lovely screen has an unlovely glass substrate. I'm hoping that the surprisingly low weight (for a 7.8" ereader) means it doesn't.

I join your worry! I thought they no more use such an old e-ink technology. Aside, Carta is new and all Carta screens are made with plastic substrate, aren't they?

As it's a Carta screen assembly and not Mobius, I think you'll be disappointed...

Good heavens, no! Almost all current reading devices have Carta screens. None has a plastic substrate that I'm aware of except the Sony DTP-S1.

Nope. The plastic substrate ones are Möbius (and have previous-gen Pearl screen tech). Carta has a glass susbstrate.

Carta is the name of the front bit of the display, not the substrate. All currently available devices with a Carta screen have a glass substrate, but E-Ink could provide a Carta screen with a Mobius plastic substrate. See the Eink Carta Spec sheet.

I suspect that at present manufacturing yield is too low to be able to sell such a device at a price that would be attractive in the mass market.
