That software is one of the cons I tell my friends and co-workers about when they are thinking about purchasing a reader. Since, I have both (PRS-505 & kindle), they are always asking me which one should they buy. Eventhough, I prefer reading with the Sony, I find myself recomending the Kindle because of the software issues. My friends don't even think the Kindle is ugly; but I think, they are spoiled because they've never seen one without a skin and the Oberon cover since I'm the only one that has a Kindle.

That Oberon cover is stunning! I don't suppose they make one for the Sony? (I have the same red D & B Sony cover you have. )

I remember you have the red D & B; I got mine after yours and loved the pictures you posted while I was waiting. Oberon does not make Sony covers. Their leather is really thick and simply stunning when you see it in person. A lot of people on the Amazon board was turned off at 1st by the $75 price tag, until I told them Sony's D & B price was $150 and I waited weeks for the price to lower to $99 before buying! And they sold out when they finally lowered it to $79 months later (still more then the Oberon price tag)!

Can't access Sony e-book library

I have been following the threads but so far I have not seen any fixes to the problem of why some people can't access the Sony e-book library. I have a PRS-505 and I installed the version 2.5 e-library software as I was instructed to do by Sony tech support. It didn't help. I have already spent about four hours on hold with Sony tech support tier 2 (866-385-7669). Sony tier 1 support said the problem is with the Norton internet security software that I am using and I should disable it. I went to msconfig and disabled everything that had Norton or Symantic in it. Restarted the laptop and the same spinning arrows appeared when I went to the e-book store. By the way, Norton said the problem is with the Sony site or software. This is crazy, I have an expensive e-book reader that I can't use because I can't buy any books from Sony. The Sony tech support guy told me that they have been flooded with complaints from people with the same problem. I would be interested in any fixes for this problem. I am at the point of returning the PRS-505 and getting my money back.

Wish I could help, but I'm in the same boat. The eBook Library is useless for me.

I dont understand it neither. I have a new HP that came with Vista 32 and Norton Antivirus and I had no problems with the library software. Last week I changed my antivirus software to McAfee and still no problem; I was so worried last month when I 1st purchased my computer, since I've been running XP and never had a Vista computer, but I had no problems with the Sony software. I did choose Vista 32 instead of 64 due to software compatability, then 1 week later Sony ugrade the library software to include 64 but I'm happy with my choice since everything I have has worked so far.

Did you guys see the thread in the Trobleshooting Section; it seems Sony tech was able to fix the library access problem for 1 person by taking over the computer. A number is listed in the thread for the branch of tech support. Hope this help.

Has anybody got a fix for this yet? I have the same problem.

I am running version 2.5 of the Connect software and am using NOD32 rather than Norton av. The store does connect when I start fiddler before running the Connect software. Come on Sony, that must be a big clue.

I never did find a fix. But I did resolve the problem by deinstalling Symantec Client Firewall and replacing it and the old Symantec A/V that came with it with Symantec Endpoint Protection months ago. I ended up with a better antivrus program and an end to the problem with the Connect s/w.

I had the same problem accessing the e-book storewhen I was running Norton Internet security 2008. I upgraded to Norton Internet security 2009 and this fixed the problem. I'm using version 2.5 of the e-book library software.
