First off many thanks to all who turned up -- I hope you all found it as fun and informative as I did!
Hopefully, LeserattePD will provide a photo or two in a day or so. On the device count, I think we had
I think we probably had 14 or 16 people during the 2 or 3 hours we were in Costa Coffee. Hopefully, those who also attended will provide more comments. Extreme Kudos and Karma to LeserattePD for organising... |

Yes, it was a very enjoyable and informative afternoon. Clearly, ebook readers are not just "toys for boys!"
The Hanlin was a v2, iirc. Also evident, both there, and in these forums. is that one reader is often insufficient once the ebook bug has bitten. I myself have two mobile devices, and am strongly considering a third, plus another four (four!) on my pc (excluding the browsers) that I use - mobi reader, calibre, ice-reader, and ereader. I have a couple of others that I tried out as well. ice-reader, btw, has the *best* autoscroll. Utterly smooth, and easily adjustable rate. Bit pricey, though. |

I'd like to add a big thank you to LeserattePD for organising this. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to try out the readers, but more importantly, get tips and advice from enthusiasts.
Special thanks to: Mrraiw, richyhu, ec1matt and of course Laseratte PD, It was great to meet you all. If anyone is up for a challenge (nothing extreme, just making things really idiot proof for a non techie) I am still struggling to convert a new book so I can import it into my ebookwise 1150. Progress so far: I've used ConvertLit to de-drm it. I'm a windows user so I know have a file titled: CleanTechRevolution[1].downconverted sitting in a folder titled, 'My Library'. I've downloaded the 7 day evaluation version of GEB eBook Librarian. Thus far haven't been able to get it to convert the file... Errors occurred during conversion, no ebook was created. Errors whilst performing intermediate formatting Steve Breen (Librarian helpdesk), kindly responded to my 'help' email: Hey Dave, The LIT format is not explicitly supported, but here's a page that might help a bit with OPF conversions (the internal ms reader format) http://www.breeno.org/eBook/extconv2.html The link shows how to 'set up' the Librarian. I did that, (although the link shows a different screen to the one I see in Librarian) and, this was the output: Failed to run external converter. Cannot continue. Thinking Outside The Box - outsourcing my conversion! If anyone would like to email me, I will happily send them the ebook (lit file) which I purchased for £8. It will be of great interest if you'd like to get up to speed on what's 'up and coming' in the new 'clean' technology (solar etc) arena. Any if anyone can return me a converted file, that I can load into my 1150, then I'll be very grateful. If I don't get this sorted soon, I fear my reader is going to look rather like Laseratte PD's Ever hopeful... Dave |

readalot, taking your first steps in file conversion can be quite overwhelming, it's true ! but you're lucky, because we have some very knowledgeable people around here. specifically, for the eb1150 (which i also have) nrapallo has created a plethora of brilliant tools. i recommend you take a look around the eb1150 forum and look specifically for the tool called "lit2imp" which should crank you out a brilliant perfectly compatible .imp file in, oh, about 15 seconds.
![]() and if you can't figure it out from the tutorials in the forum, post a new thread there to ask your question, and i'm sure you'll get it sorted in no time. |

I would just like to add my thanks to the organizers of this meet, and to those who attended - especially those who had travelled some distance to be there. As the others have mentioned it was great to see such a variety of different devices together in one place, and to hear the different user experiences. I look forward to another such event in the future and hope to keep in touch meantime via the fourms.

Hi everyone,
here's the picture of all the ebook readers at the meeting. I enjoyed myself a lot and it was great to meet all of you. I was hoping that seeing all the ebook readers in comparison would help me decide on my next ebook reader, but unfortunately I'm still dithering... I'll be quite busy the next 6 weeks or so, so I won't set up another meeting, but maybe someone else would like to set something up, if there's enough interest. |

Thanks for posting the pic (and for arranging the whole thing).
Sorry that seeing a lot of devices side-by-side didn't help you make you mind up the way it did me. Perhaps that's the universe telling you that you need more than one device ![]() |

I guess you didn't get a chance to round up any reporters for your meet-up? That didn't occur to us in the DC meet-up. If any of us get to Worldcon, maybe we can do better!

Hi Everyone,
Read about this too late! I'm up in Leicester, but I'm sure I could have convinced the other half for a trip down to London. Maybe next time. No pics of any people, or is that going too far off forum? :-) |

There's no problem with posting pictures of people if you have their consent and if they agree to let their picture appear on a public forum.

Thank you for your response.
However, I've searched the forum and can't find the file you are referring too - just several posts which refer too it. I've even searched the web, unsuccessfully... Feeling really stupid because i've been wrestling with this for five weeks. Would really appreciate some help |
