And turn about is fair play; if I'm going to be voyeuristic among other people's lists, it's only just that they be able to see mine. There's a social contract element here; if everyone had private lists, what would be the point? I've got a smallish list of Goodreads cronies and they're apprised of everything I read, and vice versa. Everyone else is welcome to look, because how else would you find new cronies?
I've never cared what others thought about my reading. That's why my reading list is only offline and why I hardly ever share what I'm reading with anybody else but my husband...

No tracking for me, other than keeping a New folder for books to be read.

Nope. No tracking. I read for enjoyment. Tracking sounds like work.

I track because it helps me more easily find more books I'm very likely to enjoy. I share because maybe it will help someone else do the same.

My GR book list is public. I only have 3 friends but one reads similar type books so I look more closely to her reviews. The other two post infrequently so not much going on there.

I'm sure for some people it IS work, probably a lot of work. Some of us, me specifically, enjoy that aspect of reading however. Maybe not as much as the reading itself, but close.
I know that I consider my reading experience to be much richer for writing down my thoughts on what I've recently read and in recent years don't consider the book "finished" until I've written my review.
Part of that, though, is that I do like to write, just little bits, not novella's or book length expostulations...
