Mini New Kobo Mini on sale (old demo units, actually) - Page 5

Three of us. I wonder how many more? I really wanted that sleepcover too. I could have (possibly) accepted the whole demo thing had they sent the grey sleepcover with it. As it is, I want a prepaid label to get it back to them and a full refund.

I did save a screenshot of the original ad and my order. Both clearly stated it came with a grey sleep cover, and no mention of this "demo unit" BS.

I just got an email from Kobo. I'm getting stuck with the ruby silicone case.

That's disappointing; I was really looking forward to the sleepcover.

But it's also not a surprise. Kobo has always sucked at retail.

Mine arrived. Yes, it's a demo and yes, it has the ruby cover.

I am concerned about the three year old battery issue. Maybe I should return it. But will they screw me out of shipping?

I was offered $10 to keep the cover. I refused. $10 doesn't begin to address the issue that the Mini is not what I ordered, nor does it cover the cost of a sleepcover. I also wonder/worry about the battery, especially being that it was completely dead when it arrived. I have requested a prepaid return label.

I got that offer, too. I haven't decided what to do.

Battery has dropped 5% from a full charge and I have 3 books on it. Not a good sign, since I haven't spent any time reading on it.

I believe I'll return it.

FWIW, I noticed that the offer on the Canadian site offered the ruby snap-back instead of the gray sleep cover. My guess is that if the orders are shipping from Canada, they're just being filled willy-nilly. Which does not begin to address the issues of old batteries and a Vizplex screen.

Sorry, folks, but in the spirit of sauve qui peut, I'm enormously relieved that after I tested Perkopolis, I had the strength to back off. For once.

All of Kobo's US order are filled from the Canadian warehouse, and they always have been.

That was my impression, but I wasn't positive.

Maybe they're shipping the new stock with sleepcovers to their fellow countrymen?

I to got a Kobo Mini today with the Ruby back cover.
I also called about the wrong cover and was told that I would be contacted to resolve the issue.
Under Settings, About Kobo Mini is says "The Kobo Mini uses E Ink technology" with copyright dates of 2009-2014.
I would think that means that it was made in 2014 or later, and hopefully the battery will still hold a charge.
My Mini had about a 40% charge on it when I started it and I haven't yet completed charging.

As I was reading back through this thread I found this and couldn't help but think that that's exactly what Kobo did - they found old devices and cleared them out. I'm curious now being that they said it was a "software error". Did all US buyers get the "demo" unit with red back cover and did Canadians get the newer model with the grey sleepcover?
