I was looking at the new specs on Amazon yesterday and seeing what happens if you try to pop one in your basket. First if all they automatically ask if you want an an card, 32,64 or 128, SanDisk, which is good. But what I didn't like was where the new OS will download programmes it thinks you might want to see in the background so you always have something to watch offline. That's not good for anyone of a fixed download package and also the last thing I want is Amazon thinking it knows what I want to watch. Plus I rarely download tv to my fires even though I have Prime.
I'll be quite glad if my two HDXs don't upgrade as they are 2013 models. Last edited by Josieb1; 09-18-2015 at 04:13 AM. |

This is what I was referring to
No more waiting ASAP (Advanced Streaming and Prediction) learns what movies and shows you like and gets them ready for you to watch. The more you view videos on your Fire tablet, the more accurate ASAP becomes, dynamically adapting to your viewing habits. Coming Soon—On Deck feature automatically downloads Prime Video (for Prime members) and the first episodes of Amazon Original Series while your device isn’t in use, ensuring that there is always something new to enjoy instantly, even when offline. |

Well, well....at this time, the cheap new Fire is a #1 Best Seller in Amazon Electronics. Just goes to show, to some people, price is everything! I bet most of them don't realize it only has a 90 day warranty.
For my little girls, this Fire would be acceptable, if they didn't already have the Fire HD6. So maybe a lot of people are getting it for their kids. However, if apps can't save/run off the SD card, the space will be gone in a micro second. (My girls each have the 16 GB and they are out of space!) (Unless you're independently wealthy. ![]() And the Warranty only matters if it breaks. With electronics, 90 days is enough to get past the break-in period. I've bought my share of 90 day warranty stuff and they're no different than the 1year stuff: They either fail right away or they last for years. All the 90 day warranty means is a chance to upsell a longer warranty (pure profit, those) Remember, this is low-end stuff. They are not premium-priced models. The rules are different and the *customers* are different. The market for premium tablets drying up? Well, how about going for people who *aren't* buying premium tablets? On the other hand, there is this: http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2015/09/am...at-never-ends/ As somebody who lived with an older SVGA android tablet for a year, I'm not about to sneer at this thing just yet. There is more to a tablet than screen pixel count. Last edited by fjtorres; 09-18-2015 at 07:53 AM. |

Good article. If they reduce them for black friday, I'd be tempted to get the 8" one, just because it comes in orange. Not sure who in my house would use it though.

Honestly, if this was not an Amazon device but standard Android, I'd be more excited. Use it as a Chromecast remote, having full access to Google Play, would be a steal. But being locked into Amazon dampens my enthusiasm a bit. Still, someone will be rooting and putting full Android on this device soon I bet.

I just pre-ordered a Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote. It'll be delivered on release day, October 22.
![]() I've been connecting my Fire HD6 tablet to the TV via HDMI cable to watch Amazon movies/TV shows, so this'll be much more convenient! We do use our Amazon Echo every day for news, weather, Wikipedia, music, etc., so it'll be nice to have Alexa on the TV, too. |

Right now, the only Fire tablet available on amazon.ca is the HD6. So obviously a refresh of the line is coming. They aren't advertising any of the new ones yet, but things may change before the 30th.
I'm in the market for a new 10" tablet (my Asus is in bad shape) but the specs on the new Fire HD 10 aren't terribly appealing. I much prefer the new Lenovo Tab2 A10-70. $250CDN, 1.7GHz quad-core, 2GB RAM, 1920x1200 IPS screen, and stock Lollipop. |
