You can't take responsibility for something that had nothing to do with you. The above conversations were between two people arguing over the meaning of a word in a phrase.

I thought RM's replies were articulate and clever. You want to see meanness? Go to the "Blatantly political rant' site. Which is why I so try to stay away from discussing politics, religion or the origin of the cosmos.....
Ah, heck ... if the duck wants to take the blame ... let the duck take the blame. And, there are people out there who just shouldn't get into discussions about ... well, about anything. Especially if they don't understand that there is a distinction between a "right of access" and "practical access." Just because someone has a "right" to access the books in the Kindle store doesn't mean they will have (or will ever have) a practical method to actually exercise that right.

I don't happen to think an ad that implies unlimited access in a country were there is maybe 33 percent coverage (just looking at the map) is being honest with the consumer.

Now, how the poster took that argument and turned it into a personal attack ... your guess is as good as mine as to that.

I went back and re-read it twice, and saw no personal attack. And NO ONE loves their Kindle more than us, right?.....

But it *was* my fault. I haven't used my scanner in months and there must have been some dust that *looked* like it was saying something about access. I cleaned away the dust, used a moist towel to make sure it was clean and re-scanned. You can tell the difference clearly between the first scan and the new one.

I need a house keeper.

Wow, perhaps you should be a lawyer pandaborg? I'm just going by common sense on what they intended it to mean. It's just a small blurb after all not a detailed description. I would think common sense would lead one to believe that the thing does not come with 125,000 books installed and ready to go. Involve lawyers and common sense is out the window.

What I think they are after with the number, however poorly worded, is that their store has way more books available than the Sony store or any other. So on the Kindle you can access 140,000+ books at the Amazon store while the competition namely Sony and its store has far fewer. To me it's totally straight forward but then I can recognize the significants of the number. I still find it hard to believe many people would think it comes with all those books pre-loaded.

And you point is???

Of course, the problem is that you are assuming you know what they "intended." People who hang around this forum are not your typical consumers. That ad is directed at a whole lot of people who (1) do not have huge amounts of common sense .... I mean really .... they read a magazine all about the stuff that a talk show hostess thinks is cool (bare with me ... I have never read the thing ... it could contain a lot of pithy and literary articles on matters of world importance ... but I doubt it), and (2) know nothing about ebooks other than what they just read in that ad.

Sadly, when people do not involve transactional lawyers soon enough ... that's when it really gets fun out there ... and they get to pay all sorts of money to the litigators.

I think you are over-estimating the "common sense" of the average user. (all on this board excepted, DONT" HIT ME!) There are STILL posts on amazon discussion with people complaining that they bought the thing and "just now realized my favorite author isn't available!!!" And "Can you share books"?? And "HELP, SCREEN FROZEN"!!! Not much common sense out there, which is why McDonalds got sued for a bazillion dollars because the stupid broad spilled the coffee on her lap and she got burned..."It was HOT! 'sob"
