You guys are thinking in a narrow box that is your world--the IT world. Most offices and the employees that run apps therein don't run SQL and all that stuff. Software companies, yes. The typical office worker doing spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, etc, no effing way! Peak outside of your narrow world once in a while and you will see there is a hell of lot more going on outside the development and IT stuff.

But that is the world the the iPad pro is *supposed* to be addressing! That is what the ballyhoo'ed deal with IBM is about. (Which hopefully will end better than the last time those two got into a Pink Bed.)

The other, smaller businesses you mention are supposed to be fine with the plain old iPad.

Corporate sales has a very specific meaning in computing. And it means selling devices by the thousand as a means to seal support service deals worth tens of millions. That is why IBM tries to sell iPads; the service and support integration contract money, not the commission Apple might throw at them.

Right.
You make your money getting them to spend on replacing their existing tools and infrastructure.
Which is what IBM hopes to do by pimping iPads.

The Dell, HP, Accenture Windows-based story is based on *not* having to change tools and not having to retrain staff, just incrementally migrate to the future.

IT experts will continue disliking Apple and predicting failure. Apple continue making billions. That seems to be the only constant in the technology world.

Nothing lasts forever and eventually everything fails so the time will come that Apple will fail. Then all the experts can say that they knew it would happen. But let's be honest here, they have had a pretty good run so far.

There is very few places and programs that don't require or access MySQL, Oracle or SQL. When is not the front end (browser) is the backend (database engine)

Just the post you wrote above used a database engine. That's what this forum uses back end.

Narrow vision to me is not seeing that.

They are making millions but NOT on the corporate arena. At least not yet. We will have to wait a few months and see if this iPad Pro is a step in the right direction. And with that I mean, enough sales to justify a follow up product.

I'm an IT guy and love Apple :-) but they have barely penetrated the corporate market. It is still dominated by Microsoft and Windows. People forget that Servers run Windows too and it's not actually Windows10.

Apple success is based on the regular consumer, selling phones, iPads, Macs.

The consumer market is far more fickle than than the corporate world. Consumers change devices and products on a whim. Corporations don't have that luxury because they have huge investments.

That is why Apple would like to get a better foothold in the corporate market. Yet, they refuse to embrace openness and compatibility. They insist on controlling every aspect of their ecosystem. That is why they never make it very far.

Apple sell huge numbers of iPhones and iPads in the corporate market (my company alone probably has thousands), but not Macs.

You *can* be productive with iOS, maybe... but the ability to run a full desktop environment is still something many will want to see. Including the corporate market...

That much Microsoft got right (eventually). The current crop of Windows tablets run plain old Windows Desktop, and you can use the wealth of applications that have been available for a long, long time. It is the convenience of a tablet form-factor wrapped around the same laptops that have been serving people so well for so long.

An iPad Pro running iOS will require people to evolve in order to be as productive as they were with a MacBook. At best.
I see it as Apple making the same mistake Microsoft made with the Surface and Surface 2. A tablet that appears to offer everything yet has a limited OS. MS disbanded the S1 and Surface2 in favour of the Pro. Even the Surface 3 has a full OS.

Why do they make millions? Because of the consumer market.

I don't know any company that has Iphones or Ipads by the thousands... The company I work for has nokia's (you know, the old-fashioned phones) and the rest is mostly Samsungs with here and there an Iphone. The company I'm detached to right now has Lumia's 630's all across the board.

It's mostly in English speaking countries that Apple is a very big hit, most of Europe has mostly Android (France is apparently a strange one in the list...)

I have my doubts that this tablet will sell by the millions like the average Iphone does. And what the original Ipad did. It's too limited for that price and size.

The company that I work for does. They have 160,000 employees world-wide, and pretty much every manager has an iPhone.

I agree with you; this is a much more specialist product and I don't think anyone is expecting it to sell millions.

Correct, and it's down to details like no trackpad on the keyboatd. They implement cursor movement gestures in ios9 and then you can't use them on your new 1000 dollar iPad with attached 160 dollar keyboard unless you bring out the on screen keyboard or continue to hold-and-swipe in the text...
It may not be "just a large ipod touch" but it most certainly is just a large iPad

I half-watched the Apple Keynote to find out about the new S iPhones and the iPad mini 4. I came away thinking seriously about the iPad Pro, which wasn't on my radar, at all.

I do a fair amount of photography and page layout work, for family photos and community event promotion, not professionally. I'm tied to my iMac for that work, because that's where the reasonably-priced prosumer apps are.

Adobe's demo of their new Comp/Fix suite intrigued me. Sadly, it's not as full-featured as the demo implied. Their own press release makes it clear they don't expect people to finish work on the Pro, just sketch/brainstorm it. They expect people will finish in the Creative Cloud apps. I find the pricing on CC is prohibitively expensive for someone not using it to make money.

But I'm sure some other startup is already dreaming of what they can with that Pro/Pencil combo. I'm also curious to see if Apple will beef up iOS Pages now. They stripped some of the functionality out of MacOS Pages to make it parallel the iOS version. So now they'll probably put some of those features back to sell more iPad Pros.

Most enterprises now are "bring your own device" when it comes to phones, and have been for several years.

Yeah, with that keyboard and pen, er, "pencil", it really seems like a poor-man's Surface, but at a higher price. It's very odd.

But I can pretty much guarantee it will have fewer bugs than my Surface 3 does on Windows 10. And for that reason many people will prefer it.
