PLEASE HELP: Anxiety before reading important books - Page 5

They're just books. They won't judge you. If you don't get everything in them, don't worry about it. If you want to read them again, maybe you'll get more later.

As a long time instructor of technical material I would recommend the following:

1 - First I would recommend reading a print edition if possible (Multiple reasons to numerous to list) if not read on
2 - Read the book and do not take notes
3 - Read the book again and take notes with page numbers this time.
4 - review your notes and go back to the book with questions
5 - add to your notes

I understand this takes time, but it is a proven method I've used successfully for years. I've shared this with students, who have made their own adaptation.

The point is learn not to memorize (I suspect).

Learning isn't always easy. Everyone learns differently. Hopefully with all the suggestions here you will be able to find the recipe that works for you.

Since this is an ebook forum I'm really curious why I should read the print edition over an ebook?

One thing I just realised is that I can read countless pages on internet forums but when it comes time to sit down and read a book I get a tonne of anxiety.

Think of a b o o k as a bunch of Web pages and forums in a nice neat bundle.
Do not think of it as a book.

I do believe we have extensively discussed that point in a number of previous threads -- although they were some time ago. Maybe people have gotten a lot worse at digital comprehension in the last ~0.5-1.5 years...

Or maybe it depends more on the person than the media.

Now I don't know if you will find anything useful in it but worth a shot.
Either that or you will discover cin finds useful things in strange places.

Better would be to say:

I am unclear why comments would be directed toward me. I thought it was important to stay on topic or does that only apply to certain people? I was trying to help this person. I know my intent was positive.

I was taught: If you can't say something positive, don't say (or type) anything at all.

Has anyone else had this issue where they're able to read an internet forum for a long period but when it comes to reading something important like a school related book it's much harder?
