On one of the cars, we specifically requested that they not put the stickers on. And they didn't.

The state government here is now issuing license plates to new cars with the dealers name printed on the licence plate.

Most people who see me with my Nook HD+ call it a kindle.
Most people in my area say coke when referring to any soft drink whether it is Coke, Pepsi, or any other brand. The dominate article comes to represent all articles in a category.

Or, contrariwise, stick a big AMAZON on the back to remind people that the Kindle in their hands is from AMAZON and not somebody else.

I'm not a southerner and I say the same thing. To me, a coke is any flavor of soda pop.

That is a good reason though. Everybody already knows it is a Kindle whether it was made by Amazon or not.

I used to work for Pepsi and would say coke when referring to any soft drink. My bosses were not happy.

From my experience this never ever happens in Germany. This is plain wrong!


As regards the label Amazon: it doesn't matter what Amazon wants to communicate. If there's Amazon slapped onto the back of a 200$ device, I won't buy it..

Tell the man with the food stall outside the Neues Museum in Berlin that. On his menu he has a section headed "Lemonade", under which is listed "Coke", "Lilt", "Sprite", etc. I asked him if he actually sold lemonade, and he said that no, that was what people there called drinks like Coke.

Perhaps one of our German friends could comment on the matter.

Would you similarly refuse to buy an iPad because it says "Apple" on the back, or a Nexus because it says "Google"? Pretty much every device on the market has a company name prominently displayed on it.

So did he call it lemonade or did he just list it under lemonade because it doesnt deserve its own category? I think there was a misunderstanding, perhaps his English was too bad (or your German)?

In regard to the branding, pretty much yeah! I mean if Amazon had a more unobtrusive logo, it would be so bad, but right now the Kindle looks just like one of their cardboard boxes (as does their super premium Origami leather cover). It's just ridiculous, Amazon simply does not convey quality... Google knows that, hence the Nexus branding...

He asked the vendor, who replied that that was how they referred to soft drinks.
