https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxWcR8qSrPY Looks like a destruction free process to me. Very un-like the H2O. If the alternative is paying a lot more money (for the H2O) or getting an outdated device (Aura is completely fine if you already have it but you won't buy it new if you want the latest generation display) or a different brand (which?) this is a fine option. It could be worse; they might've got rid of the internal card slot as well. |

Save the original Micro-sd card after the upgrade, if there is a problem and you need to return the device insert the original Micro-sd card back.

kobo aura 2 would get my vote, all kobo have to do is improve the capacitive touch screen to a higher and clearer spec, also increase the 4GB of storage to 8GB add a battery compartment on the back of the device so that it is easy to replace the battery when it needs changing and retain the same flush design and sd slot JOB DONE, people would be queueing up in their droves to buy it and i would be first in line.

Kobo Mini also had no external uSD card slot and only 2GB memory. Some had 2GB internal uSD card and others had 4GB internal uSD card with 2GB unformatted. It was also easy to open and install up to 32GB.

With an SD-card slot, the amount of internal memory is largely irrelevant. The price per gb of MicroSD storage is pennies these days.

So its obviously not an issue of real debate for the majority of customers. |

Making a removable battery removes an element of simplicity from the e-reader. For most people an e-reader is a one-trick pony, and so (as I said earlier) the fact they come with between 2-4gb memory isn't an issue for 80-90% of customers. My guess as to removable battery is a similar figure. Most people who buy e-readers just want to switch on and just read. Here's the rub I think. People who want a degree of customisation are quite simply in the minority. I can see where you're coming from, but I think those who produce e-readers play the numbers game and don't see a vast increase in sales for that... |

hi, hypothetical question for all, if kindle or nook or any other e-reader manufacturer for that matter brought out a device with a replaceable battery what do you think kobos response would be?

I definitely would love to see all ereaders have available batteries that can be replaced by the consumer, as long as the cost is reasonable and not $50+. I tend to keep my readers for a long time so would definitely make use of that feature at some point. But a lot of people tend to prefer to get new readers every year or few years at least, so I might be in the minority. |

And a reply - my guess is if one (Nook/Kobo/Kindle) saw a market for it, they'd all go for it. As per light technology.
