I bought a blue light fliter, just to give it a try, and I didn't find any difference.
As for the the OLED display, it's an interesting technology, but from what I saw last time I checked it, it's too expensive. I'd be willing to pay 5000$ for a monitor that solves all my problem, but I'd have to be sure it works before buying it. The problem is that it takes me hours, even days to confirm whether a solution helps or not. For instance, I bought a privacy filter, and for 24h, it felt like It helped. The next day, I found out it didn't really. |

Thank you for this kind offer !
I would love to see a video of actual web browsing, for example Google News, then clicking on an article and reading it at a normal speed, to see how pleasant it could be to actually use the Dasung this way; and your take on this usage. Also, if you could manually focus your camera on the screen and lock focus, the video would be of higher quality. Anyway, it looks like this new e-ink controller designed by these Chinese engineers is not ready for prime time. And with the new controller from Freescale announced for the end of the year, maybe they had better adopt this probably more robust solution: http://goodereader.com/blog/electron...aders-is-imx-7 |

The resolution issue has been raised before. What I really should have done is cut the first part of the video (using Youtube's tools). I'll do that with later videos.

A new video of this screen, driven by a MacBook:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9DbdaPQyLY Right now it is a disaster. Dasung say it is a pre-production model, so we will see. |

I'm not sure I see the benefit wouldn't it kill the screen fast and use just as much power as an LCD, if something like this is refreshing at a typical PC speed say 60fps.
I know you can get LCD monitors which can power themselves from the USB so this whole concept confuses me. Just to explain how my brain is working I'm thinking the equivalent of 60 ereader page turns a second I don't think the battery would last anywhere near as long as an LCD in that circumstance. A rough calculation I just made if the 7,500 page refreshes per charge I just looked up online is correct then a kindle would only have power for 2 minutes 5 seconds. |

We're talking about externally powered devices here, not tablets. Yes, an eInk monitor with a fast refresh rate uses a lot more power than typical eInk reader usage.

Hey guys, I saw that Dasung posted on their twitter that they started selling again, but only inside China. Has anyone been able to buy their monitor from a friend in China and can you explain how that works?

Dasung is holding another limited international sale, in case anyone is interested.

You said in one of your posts that you no longer had the problem you mentioned initially and could now use normal LCD screens (I think the comment was removed because you were offering to sell the Dasung, so I couldn't reply to it directly). Just wondered what you did/how you managed to solve it? I also have problems using any kind of monitor, especially when I have to read a lot of text. I don't have the problem with paper books or ebook readers. I could and sometimes do read on these all day without any complaints, so I know it must be to do with backlit screens. I'm currently working as a translator, but at the moment I literally can't do more than 4-5 hours per day, with plenty of break in between, and even this is difficult. I've already ordered a Dasung monitor and have high hopes for it, but it would be great finding a solution to the problem in general as an e-ink device will obviously never be ideal. |

@eturgeon, I'm a programmer like yourself, trying to find a non-light-emitting device that I could do my work on. I don't suffer from physical issues though, I just really, really want to work outdoors (although some years ago my eyesight started deteriorating rapidly, but that's fixed now, and I don't even need to wear glasses).
I currently intend to get the Boox Max, discussed here, and see how much I can hack it to do what I need from it. Some pointers based on my experience and what I've read on the thread: AMOLED allows selective color display, if it's supported by the controller and the software. On my Samsung Galaxy S3 I'd use Galactic Night - red-only mode, low brightness makes using the device at night a non-damaging experience. I don't know how other devices fare, but afaik since Android 4.4 that can be done in software, and there's apps for that: "Color Changer" from the same developer, "CF.Lumen", probably more. On the desktop I use redshift (f.lux if you're on windows / mac). It's a must for the odd evening at the computer, the normal blue tone is an eye killer. I also have a dark theme for everything, and use a global dark style on Firefox using Stylish, with custom styles for specific sites. I used to use this only in the evening, but nowadays I browse like that most of the time, on most sites. I use incandescent lighting whenever possible - I have a halogen desk lamp near my computer, that I turn on when it starts getting dark, and avoid the overhead lights. It makes for a nice, warm ambient and a smooth transition to evening mode. Also, if you watch TV, never do it with the lights fully off. A diffuse light behind the TV will make it much, much better. And finally, there's the lifestyle changes. Try spending as much time out in nature, see what happens. Physical exercise will do wonders, and both together doubly so. Someone mentioned meditation, which will definitely help, but I'd suggest simple "mindfulness meditation" (Zazen practice), which will alleviate much of the stress that's likely to be behind your issues. If this takes you on a path which you want to follow further, then Vipassana has the potential to fully "cure" you, but it won't work if pursuing the health benefits alone. |

Two weeks ago I bought a Onyx Boox M96. My purpose is same with eturgeon, using it as a display when I coding.
But as my experience with my 6 inch Nook Simple Touch, simply "as a display" is not a good idea. The mouse pointer is slow and slow... But why you need mouse, you have a Touch Screen! So the good idea is not simply mirror your desktop, instead of Remote Access your desktop. I use a RDP client connected to my Win10, both the client and Win10 has the full support of touch screen, so I can use my M96 as a touch enabled Win10 tablet! I have three parts of video for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dEWN59WB2c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFBluWW7do8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glmTifBRkjE In video you will found the touch access is smooth and easy-to-use. Then connected a bluetooth keyboard, and you can really coding & debugging with your touch enabled e-ink Win10! PS: I'm waiting for Onyx Boox Max, it's also 13.3 inch. However, neither DaSung nor Boox Max are public sale now (Boox Max may sale in May). But someone has unopened DaSung saled on a second-hand store. PS 2: A2 refresh mode use 1 bit grey depth. DaSung has an A5 mode, it's also 1 bit grey depth, but bind 4 pixel as one. so the resolution is declined to 800x600 but it has 5 grey depth (0 black px to 4 black). On kernel changed Nook Simple Touch, there is another 1 bit refresh mode called FastMode. It likes DaSung's A5 mode, but use dynamic sparse or dense points to draw your images. It's quickly with acceptable image quality. Someone watchs video with the mode! Onyx ROM version 1.7.4 supported the mode, with a little delay when you hand-write.
