I'm sort of like gmw here but just less subtle at it - it's a boolean decision: re-readability is my

I used to reread my favourite novel 'Jane Eyre' every year (sometimes in English, sometimes in Chinese). I didn't do this since 2013. I am afraid that I may not enjoy it so much as last time.

Don't really have a TBR list. Reading a lot on ScribeD lately. But I do reread my favourites. There are some I reread every year - or even multiple times a year.

I reread frequently when I was a younger. that's why I know all my favourite children's books almost by heart.
A good book is like an old friend to me, it gives me comfort, I know what to expect, but I still discover new aspects from time to time. And with the authors I've discovered as an adult I savour their language which makes rereading enjoyable even if I know the story well. But still, usually, I don't remember too much from previous readings unless I'm reading the book for the third, fourth or fifth time. Rereading gives me the chance to notice new and different things in the story, the language, the characters which I would miss if I only read a book once. I haven't been rereading too much since I've started reading on an electronic device because my TBR pile will last me for years, if not decades. But every now and then I'm in the mood for something familiar, something that won't disappoint me. I've also started rereading my favourite authors' back catalogue chronologically, just to track their development. |

I am rereading right now-- LoTR.
I have my list of favorites, and I switch genres often... some rereads are palate-cleansers, others are just that good, and still others read differently with time (because I am a different person with every new day... that is partly because of what I am reading). Currrently, I'm at 3 rereads of 27 books read for this year. |

My bedtime reading is usually revisiting the science fiction gems from my youth. Daytime reading is usually more science non fiction. Both lists are too long to think about.

I used to re-read. But I've made the decision that I will no longer do so. I have too many books that I want to read, to go back and read something I've already read.

I reread less than 10% of the books. Actually I reread just one book during the last 5 years. I not only find way too many interesting books to read, but my mind evolves in leaps and I don't like what I used to like several years ago.

I have a long commute each day and am using Audible for several of my re-read favorites, LOtR, Hobbit, Sherlock Holmes, to name a few. It's interesting to me to hear the reader emphasize and pronounce things differently than I have. It seems to give new interest and life to my old friends. For instance, in the Hobbit the reader pronounced Oin and Gloin with an Oh-ween and Gloh-ween and, possibly because I'm southern, I always heard Oh-win and Gloh-win in my thought narrator. I also never noticed the use of the word carven to describe Gandalf's staff I just read carved. I like the former much better. It seems to give more warmth to the phrase.

Re reading is like breathing for me...once a book is consumed, it turns toxic ('carbon dioxide') and I need a new book if I want to read.

If rereading is like breathing, wouldn't you have to keep rereading or die?

Time is like the rain forest to already read books: it turns them into oxygen.
