I liked the OAV of Aa Megamisama better than the first several volumes of the manga, on which the story was loosely based. I felt that the author had more solid characterizations (and artwork) by the time the OAVs were made, and the changes were an improvement.

Was going to post this yesterday, but I had to work.
Uwe Boll & Paul Anderson should be locked in a cell for crimes against humanity. Yes, they got some folks some work, but sometimes I feel that the premise of "The Watchmen" is valid; bad art causes bad vibes. By the way, when I type "locked in a cell," I mean that this should be the end of their interaction with humanity. Not that I am bitter. @ Spooky: Maybe if the Federal Government allowed me to take mind-altering drugs again I might see some meta, post-post modern humour/entertainment in Keanu's flick, but there were very few redeeming values. Interestingly, Dina Myers was in two flicks discussed here. One is proof that even gold can be turned into manure--the other had giant goo-spewing bugs & cool spaceships. Ah Hollywood. |

Dune. Don't even ever attempt another movie. Way too much inner dialog and cultural background to ever make it as a movie. Oh, and The Matrix. Not that it was ever a book, but the characters were stolen from William Gibson, especially the badass girl with the sunglasses. What Dreams May Come. The movie was great, very nice effects, but wow, they changed the entire story, the philosophy, the main characters... if I had never read the book, I might have liked the movie. As it was, my mental editor kept objecting. |

You can't possibly think The Matrix is a bad moive; it's a work of art. The sequels, however, suck horse shit through a narrow hose.

I saw The Matrix at the end of a very long, strange day, in Liberty, MO, a small town just North of Kansas City. I was alone, on a business trip. The hotels were full, so I stayed at a "Bed and Breakfast", which was really an old Catholic church about 70% restored. Creepy, but what an awesome room. My room had two stories. A spiral staircase up to the bathroom area, which also had a 4-person hot tub. One wall had the full stain glass, floor to ceiling. Kind of weird, it had a 70's free love vibe, but in a Catholic church!
During lunch, I walked through the local cemetery, where I found a family group of headstones that had MY family's exact names, from parents to me to my siblings, only from 100+ years before. Freaky? I ate a PB&J sandwich while sitting on a headstone with my own name etched upon it. Then there was my server/waitress at the Applebees for dinner, a Goth chick named Keturah. When I told her I recognized her name from the Bible (Abraham's wife after Sarah died), she got starry-eyed, swearing a palm reader told her that the man who recognized her name would be an angel who could guide her to the next phase of her life. What conflicted thoughts, emotions, and convolutions of conscience that put me through. I took her to see The Matrix. I slept in a Catholic Church with a hot tub, walked through a cemetery, ate lunch on my doppleganger's headstone, and went out with a Goth girl who thought I was an angel - that, my friends, is the recipe for creating the proper frame of mind in which to watch The Matrix.
