That was my thought too. Some books whether epub or kindle have DRM and some don't. When you buy a book it's either added directly to your account or a link in the acsm file is that then enables you to download the book. At least that's how it seems to me as a customer. They unlock the book so that you have access.

Using the "3 dots" menu to select getting the book in epub which is now available, I got the book with title-epub.acsm format. Looks like it is being done like getting books from the library. Interesting that B&N had just let people download directly in epub format, no acsm appendages. Looks like reinstalling ADE 2.0 as had changed to win8.1; still able to download from Google is preferable to doing it to my tablets. It will be a waiting game to see where one can get books directly or non-drm'ed. |

I uploaded Executive Lunch to Google Play/Google Books and yes, there is now a box to check for DRM. The default is unchecked. So it is possible to load books with or without on the interface I see (doesn't mean this is the interface all publishers would use.)
In the past world of Google books (before Google play) there was really only an "upload" option and not much else. I think it took .doc or html. It now takes epub and has a default to also sell PDF. I assume they will create the PDF as that is implied in their help on the subject. I don't go out of my way to create PDF as it's cumbersome and yet another format to track. FWIW. |
