16 GB isn't that limiting for a device like that, unless you store large media files or use many, bigger programs. But yes, more is better, of course.

I don't use clouds for any kind of long-term storage, for the same reason I don't store my underwear in my neighbors drawers (wait ... maybe this is a bit of an unfortunate analogy!), and I don't see that ever changing. I make an exception for Dropbox for exchanging small files between systems or with colleagues and friends, but that's it.

I have stored files on my website that I use for writing, but it isn't as convenient as Box, Dropbox, Onedrive, Google, etc, to upload stuff to it.
