Fair enough. Even though "sent me a copy" pretty much guarantees it's "not untouched," I'll not beleaguer the point by mentioning that liberation software today is not the same as liberation software 5+ years ago (OK, so I DID beleaguer it a little).

But no, please don't send me a copy of a copyrighted book. I'll concede that the mistakes were very likely in the original. I just think it's important to be able verify these things using the absolute original, rather than processed (however much you've come to trust the process) versions.

I've been using the DRM removal software since it first came out and I've never noticed any sort of errors that resembled these errors. So I highly doubt it was that. I think it was poor workmanship by the people who made the eBook.

I was not aware that the DeDRM tools did any editing of the book resources, just decryption by mimicking what ADE might do.

To my limited knowledge, they don't do any modification. My point was that there's very little point in pointing out mistakes in files you very well could have done stuff to five years ago before reading it and forgot about doing.

That doesn't seem to be what happened here, but in my opinion, if you're going to point out mistakes you think the publishers have made, you should first make sure the mistakes are actually in the file the publisher/retailer gave you. This is what I wanted to check on, and am now satisfied was indeed the case.

I don't think it was that much of stretch to wonder if something like that might have happened with this file, when Joques was describing how things looked in the kepubified version that was created with a calibre plugin. *shrug*

Yes, but then it should work equally well to refer to the original archived pristine copy from right after the DeDRM.

DiapDealer, back then I unencumbered my epubs with a commercial program that actually messed up my files in some very subtle ways (i.e. caused a weird but fixable compatibility problem with the "Kobo extended features" Calibre plugin), but nothing like this ever happened. I am always very particular about keeping the newly unencumbered files separate in their pristine form, and I only ever mess around with copies of the files. So I can fairly confidently claim that I didn't do this :-)

JSWolf, cool to hear you confirm the error.

I poked through the thread and couldn't see this, sorry if I missed it: I would have thought these would be Kindle/Whispersync anchors, or the like.
