NCIS is somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me. Some shows of a similar nature (eg. Law & Order) take themselves so very seriously that they're easy to parody within the bounds of your own living room, and extremely predictable at times (though, on occasion, I still watch them as I watch most TV - for "light" viewing). NCIS seems "self-aware", in that the writers are willing to go to wit and occasionally seem to parody themselves (or have the characters do so), not to mention the dialogue can be quite funny before plunging into (over-)seriousness. It all seems to try help the viewer not take it too seriously either, and the meta-joke above is not that surprising to me.

I enjoy it quite a bit, especially the later series, with Ziva, who is like a more "meaty" (character-wise) Caitlin, who I liked as well. (Note, I'm leaving a gap for the Abby-lovers).

I'm not saying I think it's "brilliant", but it gives me a chuckle and some outlandish hypothesising with the Loved One before an episode's inevitable "twist".
