My device takes 25 seconds to boot.
Even if it would be 5 seconds, there is nothing more anoying than to wait for that while you're already ready to read ...

I just switch it on as I pick it up. By the time I've settled myself down in my chair to read it's ready.

If you're familiar with Tasker, you can easily automate entering and leaving full screen mode.

I am not familiar with it, and if it doesn't use OnyxSDK I don't think it would be able to enter fullscreen mode. Regular applications can't go into true fullscreen(removing that big black bar on the top). When I'm reading I want to see only 3 things. The text of the book, occasional illustrations and annotations. If I see that bar I constantly check what time it is etc. It's distracting.

@Harry: the feature of automatic shutdown after set time. I was very surprised to find it on my device after I hacked it to use Onyx firmware. Especially since it's turned on by default.

You see, your mileage will vary depending on how and where you read. I tend to read when commuting to work. I don't want another thing to worry about when I'm getting ready to work like turning the device on while I close the door. Also I often read spontaneously, just picking up the reader and reading where I left off. Especially in this situation additional time for boot would be very frustrating.

Ok, but please don't let my Tasker script know that you think it's not supposed to work, it might just stop doing so out of sheer shock.

It's also on my Lynx, but I don't use it. For me, it's not worth it. I bought the sleep cover so that I could open the cover and start reading--most of the time if I have time to read during the day it's only 5 minutes here or there, and if I had to turn the reader on and wait for it to boot up every time I wouldn't even bother.

I just can't understand how things that were introduced in much earlier Android versions and are working properly on thousands of various device cannot work on this one.
I fully charged it yesterday and then put in standby. With the wifi on, true.
Today it's depleted.
My phone, my tablet, how can they cope with this situation and don't deplete and this reader that has nothing pretty much to do while in standby can't ?!

I suspect you'll find that you'll get far, far better battery life if you turn WiFi off. It uses a lot of power.

My point is that it's OS's job to manage that, not mine.
The same as my phone and tablet (Android as well) can turn the wifi radio off when it's not actually used, the T68 could do the same.
And since they run pretty much same Android version it should just work.

This IS a software issue, btw. Easily addressable with an update.

Android tablets _don't_ turn off WiFi when they're asleep. You'll still get "push" notifications (email, etc) when the tablet is asleep, and WiFi is enabled. Try it and see for yourself. My Nexus 7 will drain its battery in about 2 days if I leave it asleep with WiFi enabled. If I turn WiFi off it lasts a week.

That sort of is my point HarryT. They manage to keep the wifi on from our perspective (see below), use it and still not waste battery.
(I still believe that wifi radio is turned off when OS deems it appropiate. You just don't see it. It's not like wifi setting is turned off but the radio. It's true that push notifications work, but you don't know the latency of that or how many retries the server does until it gives up. Obviously for usage generating from inside the device, the OS will know to turn the radio on).

If I send an email from an external system to the gmail account that I have configured on my Nexus, I get the "new email" sound from the Nexus within a few seconds, even when it's asleep. That proves pretty conclusively that the WiFi radio is turned on, even when the device is asleep.

The T68/Lynx does turn off Wifi when asleep (at least it was the case before the latest couple of updates - I haven't tested it in a while). It's easily tested by continuously pinging your device and then, without stopping, putting it to sleep mode. You'll see that the pings suddenly stop working. And yes most modern Android devices do not turn off Wifi while asleep, but all the Onyx Android devices that I've had do.
