I think this thread needs to be closed and a new one started with a much more comprehensive list of categories. As it is, too many are missing and thus, the poll is invalid.

If we tried to include all the sub-catagories of fiction in the poll we'd run out of slots for them before we ran out of Genre's. A poll can only have 30 possible choices and if say the average sub-genre's of a given genre of fiction is 10 that would mean that only 3 main genre's of fiction could be fitted into the poll which would make it even more invalid I'd think.

It's pretty general, giving a basic overview(which was probably OP's intention) and thus it's valid. See what I did there?

I agree with you.
If you take Jules Verne for example, he could be considered as writing in steampunk, but for him it was probably science fiction. However, real science turned out differently, so those kind of works totter between historical science fiction and fantasy.
I like that category of alternate history, but if you wanted to be really general about it, I think sci-fi is more encompassing of the steampunk genre.

I don't read a single genre most often, I don't think, though if you lumped all of fantasy/urban fantasy/SF/horror together, as some do, that would likely win on the numbers. I also read mystery/crime, romance and romantic suspense, mainstream/contemporary women's fiction, "literary" (whatever that means), historical, YA (a category rather than a genre) of all sorts, graphic novels, a little nonfiction (cookbooks, craft, memoirs, politics, other). With short fiction I tend to stick with F/SF.

Well, yes, but now that we know the POPULAR big threads, you could do another poll just to drill down into the SUB-GENRES.
