I did it manually, but using macros and other facilities of the vim text editor.

It usually fits 3 strips per page, I think it automatically resizes the images to fit the width (or height, if needed), so no scroll is needed. Well, two flaws in the mobipocket reader: it does not allow landscape and you still have the margins...

One solution to that is to rotate the image, rather than the book. I've done that with a number of the illustrations in the books that I've created.

I Know, But when you've got a few hundred images, you want to automate it as much as possible .

I've rotated the images manually in a couple of books I've Created, when i just have a few Images. However when dealing with a mass of comic images, especially ones that get updated regularly, don't really feel like expanding a lot of effort. On My Laptop, I just create a zip and rename it cbz to view in CDisplay.

Well, here's an update -

Wrote to Bookeen to complain about the PDF and battery life issues, and they sent me the 538 Firmware.

Tried to Reflash the device, and it was all going smoothly, and the reflash process had started. Then the progress bar appeared to have frozen.

I left it alone for a little while longer, figuring that it was doing something under the hood, and then when nothing seem to have happened for aboy 20 minutes, tried to see if it was working.

this is the result

Name:	Gen3 after 538 01.jpg
Views:	365
Size:	630.5 KB
ID:	13432

As you can see that while the menu options are accessible, it isn't really usable.

Repeated the process after re-downloading the firmware and using another SD card, just to eliminate that factor, but no dice.

luckily, was able tp restore the device to working condition using 685.

So has anyone else run into this problem when trying to downgrade.
(I have one of the new Gen3's with 512mb internal memory, and the battery was fully charged when I tried to do this)

I've written to Bookeen about this so lets see what they say.

I'd say "OUCH" indeed! Ummm... I got sick and tired of Build 685 so I just downgraded to Build 538. The procedure went flawlessly. Unless they've got "phantom" Build 685s out there, this should NOT have been a problem.

I Know, that's what I figured. Even sent in the Serial no and mentioned that I had one of the new models.

So I just downloaded the 538 firmware from bookeen themselves, and followed the steps, and well.... you can see the results.

Do you have the new model with the expanded memory? Has anyone with the new hardware downgraded to 538?

You should really complain about the bad battery time so they fix it and release a new version.

Regarding this battery time; has anyone carried out a comparison test with the 2 latest versions. All I've seen on these forums are test results for the latest upgrade...

I did, and they sent the boilerplate response that the team is working on it and please downgrade to 538.

But....538 apparently doesn't work on the newest hardware.

What I think happened was that when I sent in my original complaint, they saw PDF problems?, Battery issues?, Send reply no XX.

When I sent the second report, with the Picture, they probably got hit by a clue by four.
I wonder whether this will light a fire under the development team, now that their easy solution of rolling back to the old firmware is gone.

So have to see how they respond to my request for the firmware it shipped with.
At least some thing's worked under it.

Ain't it, though!

In some ways I'm glad I'm running an older, 64MB Cybook.

I answered the poll that I hat to return it, but I must say that with the new one I received in replacement I'm hitherto having no problem at all (I don't use pdf).

ETA

After a few days usage I can confirm the excellence of the battery life.
On the other hand I noticed occasional freezing when browsing the library, and the well known issues with pdf document.
