No, we drive via the Northsea coast to Omaha Beach, then to the Bay of Biscay into Spain, via Bilboa to Burgos to somewhere south of Toledo. And from there to Malaga. And the way back we went to other side of Madrid (closest we came to Madrid was about 100km) to Andorra.

Especially the bit to and from Burgos was booooooooring (I thought the Netherlands was flat, but this was worse...), and I cannot see another olive tree without losing my mind...

I must say, I really did like Nevada, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico a lot better! (I've lived in Roswell, NM for a year as an exchange student and my parents came over at the end of it. We took a car trip from there to San Diego via Colorado, Utah and Arizona)

It is. On my trip last year I flew to Phoenix and then visited several of the national parks: Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley (which, before some smart Alec says so, I know is not a national park, or even a valley ), as well as some interesting towns like Tombstone, Santa Fe, and Salt Lake City. A truly beautiful part of the world.

This is a step in the right direction, but this doesn't go far enough. I think that for our safety, passengers should be banned from taking any personal possessions with them on the flight (including clothes). They should be forced to wear airline prison robes during the flight. That should reduce the risk of a terrorist hijacking a plane!

But what if they swallow the bomb?

I agree with you, but I would go one step further: passengers must also be purged. We could do it instead of the x-ray scanning, since no one can take anything on anyway. That way, it won't even take significantly longer (obviously we need to build machines that do this rapidly and efficiently)!

I do know someone who would be dead now if she wasn't wearing her seat belt. Do you want to risk being dead or seriously injured when you don't have to be?

An employee of mine was killed when she was thrown from her car and it rolled over her. If she had been wearing her seat belt she would have survived. She left two young kids.
Just last month my son's best friend was killed when he was thrown from a car and broke his neck. He was 24.
My niece's boy friend is in a nursing home because he has brain damage that resulted when he was thrown from a truck and hit the pavement. He has permanent brain damage and is just 30 years old.
Wearing a seat belt is the smart thing to do.

I'm here in part because of a seat beat and airbag (Thank God! ). I had a bad accident a couple of years ago. My car was totaled. If I didn't have my seat belt on, I might have flown onto the highway.

Thank you for your concern, seriously. In truth, I have my seat belt on before I hit the driveway, much less the state line. New Hampshire's law is idiotic.

I, too, am touched by this concern for issybird, and I would share it if it had even crossed my mind that she really wasn't using her seat belt. I think New Hampshire is not hostile to seat belts. I believe the reasoning is that people do not need laws to act responsibly and in their own, as well as the community's, best interest. This theory would work if all their citizens were like issybird. Silly New Hampshire.

It's that whole "Live Free or Die" thing.

Add a couple for me. While driving a minivan on a quiet country road several years ago, with the kids in the back (in appropriate car seats) a Toyota ran a stop sign and hit us on the right side. The minivan went up on the two left wheels and began to swerve. If the seat belt hadn't kept me behind the wheel I wouldn't have been able to keep the minivan from overturning. The only injuries we suffered were bruises from the belts.

Yeah. I got to watch a car with two joyriding teenagers go cartwheeling off a road one time. One had his seatbelt on, the other didn't. The difference in their outcomes was striking and grisly. You'd have to pass a law to _not_ wear seatbelts to keep me from wearing one now.
