To satisfy everyone, would it be possible to use a [Joke] tag or something?

Sure it's possible to put people on the ignore list, but I don't like that and I'd prefer if people just preface their thread with [Joke] when it's a joke (so I can read it directly with the appropriate mood, or skip).

I was under the impression this thread was half serious, but there's too much (apparently?) off-topic stuff, some even coming from a moderator. So which is it?

I've been online since 1995 and a member of probably a few dozen forums in that time. I think it's extremely rare to find a thread in a friendly place such as this which stays on topic and doesn't contain something funny from at least one member. Mods have senses of humour too the last time I looked

You could argue that a huge percentage of the threads here are supposed to be 'serious' in intent, and yet even with the fun aspect which inevitably creeps in, they still manage to get the point across, answer the questions, help the op or whatever. The joking just adds flavour and interest as far as I'm concerned.

The day this forum becomes so serious that people are flamed for trying to make the rest of us laugh is the day I ask a mod to delete my profile <--- that was my attempt to be serious for a moment.

Just my 2p. Flames on a postcard to.... Apologies for going ot, but I felt the need to say something.

I'm all for some good humour, and have found this thread to be entertaining, but I can see what Doonge is getting at. I originally clicked on the post because I thought it was a serious post... was there ever any original subject matter to spur this, or has this been a joke thread the whole way through? Just wondering if I'm completely missing the nuances... Thought perhaps folks would indulge those of us who are excited/hoping for a new device release on the horizon

Jackastor has in the past correctly informed the community of an upcoming release. Beyond that I seriously doubt you would get ANY real information in this thread.

Those who beta test new f/w releases have no idea at all as to when (or if) a new build will be released, or what features they have seen in beta builds will appear in released f/w.

This particular thread is a light hearted take on rumours.... its not to be taken seriously and while every one who may post here, may make a few jokes or laughs which in the real world may give us pause to reflect laugh and applaud or groan as the case may be for some. Nothing said in this thread should be taken to heart and or serious. Although some rumours maybe true such as this one here :

" This is rumour control. Here are the facts

15" super-ultra-HD eInk device with wireless charging, built in beverage holder. Colours to be Hot Lemon, Furious Ultramarine, Ravenous Taupe, and Ultra-hip White.

1" micro-mini eInk. Comes with magnifying glasses.

All the apps are updated to include the new BrainLoad™ functionality which downloads the book directly to your brain, you don't need to read the book as all it's knowledge is already within your Brain. "

(Originally posted by Sharkus! and shameless cut and pasted by me)

Either way smile, giggle, or groan, because with the way the world is today it never hurts to have a laugh or two or three even if they are groaners.

peace and keep it real or not.

regards

Oh and well one last thing, I don't think ignoring anyone for posting a bad joke is a reasonable response to anything. Just remember its only the internet and at the end of the day you can always pull the plug and surf another day...

I'm waiting for the Kobo projection reader: a wrist device that will project paginated text onto any surface, sensing the color of said surface and projecting text in a suitably contrasting color. Display your book on a wall, on the back of the seat in front of you, on the back of someone's head, turn your windshield into a heads-up display reader (not advised), etc.

DRM will be handled via bluetooth to a special ring (suddenly DRM becomes cool because: 1. bluetooth is always cool, and 2. it's a secret decoder ring!).

That might not be as far fetched as you think, seeing as there are already handheld holographic projectors about. So I heard on the radio. Although for what its worth the only real hologram I know of was the one used for Michael Jackson.

One of the things one should do when becoming a member of a forum, group, family, is to take the tenor of said entity. If one takes the time to do that, one would have a better understanding of the members of said group. After learning these things, I think there would be a much better understanding of whether the other members are joking or being serious. This forum is just like any other group. If you are always serious, or always joking, that would make for a boring group. Some of each makes for a happy medium. I think this forum has accomplished that.

Just my 2 cents.

[ Blatently Obviously Non-Humorous Post ] (ps. beware of sarcasm)

According to articles assembled from a variety of tech sources and amalgamated through the AppyGeek App, it has been revealed that Kobo(Subsidiary of Rakuten(JAPAN)) will release three separate new e-ink reader models in time for this year's holiday season:

The Kobo Aura BVD -an all new take on ereaders specifically designed with the bathroom reader in mind. This new flexible wearable model will allow one to drop trous and read while staring at them ostensibly for the reader who simply must always have their ereader with them. It is rumored the new flexible under-readers will be available in a wide variety of colors and styles with a special Victoria's Secret line to debut once they figure out how to explain the concept of reading to their models...

The Kobo Glo Max -a radical departure from the regular Glo model, this unit will employ no built in lighting, but instead benefit from direct solar lighting directed from a series of high orbit solar reflector satellites Kobo will launch this summer. Kobo claims the satellites will be cheaper than maintaining quality control of the currently employed diffuser layer due to pin pricks, and promises there will be no dangers related to high energy reflected solar as the process will be carefully controlled by the high quality firmware implemented in the new devices. Kobo developers are currently debating multiple lighting settings from light to medium to lightly browned to lightly blackened to BROIL.

The Kobo Faux -finally through exhaustive media feedback partially generated through Google AdWords and research initiated at Sandia National Laboratories and finalized at several high level think tanks Kobo has designed the ultimate ereader for those who are too busy to read, can't be bothered to read, or merely cannot read but do not wish to be thought less of in modern society. This device while technically an ereader will, through special software, only display the cover page, table of contents, and "jacket commentary" of the "ebooks" purchased from sources such as the NY Times Bestsellers List so as to convey the sense that the owner is actually reading the latest and trendiest of publications.

I must, unfortunately, report a fact:

It is rumored that rumors are circulating about Kobo.

Rakuten and Amazon announce partnership
June 06, 2014 07:41 EDT

Rakuten, parent company of Kobo Inc, an eReader manufacturer and eBook supplier, announces a ground-breaking agreement with Amazon, producer of Kindle eBook readers and supplier of Kindle-format eBooks.

Kobo eReaders will have built-in software to access the Kindle store, cloud, and open Kindle eBooks. Correspondingly, Kindle eReaders will be able to access the Kobo store, logged-in user’s account, and open Kobo kepubs (proprietary Kobo-formatted ePub).

Both Kobo and Kindle eReaders will have the capability of accessing library Overdrive borrowing mechanism in United States and Canada via WiFi without computer intervention. Implementation in other countries is expected.

Spokespersons from both companies hail this initiative as a huge step forward for the consumer, and expect that the expanded market for their eBook stores would benefit both companies.
