I see you owned a prs-600. How did you find that? It gave me a headache.

I bought a Kindle Keyboard

The PRS-600 was great in sunshine, but as soon as I came indoors with subdued lighting, I really struggled ,the contrast was/is just too low. It was my first e-reader though; at that point it was just "wow" all my books held in my hand at once - Goodbye dusty bookcase.

After buying a little PRS-300 Sony for my wife and thinking - "hey - that thing's better than mine" I decided to get the Kindle Keyboard. I really liked it, except for the keyboard at the bottom, Hence the "Glo".

In-fact the week before My Kobo Glo broke, I sent the KK to my daughter overseas - Bad timing or what?

Still - now I have a lovely new PaperWhite to enjoy for a few weeks until Amazon try and tempt us all with the next version, before the paint's dried on my old (new) one

I don't have a Mini iPad but I have Nexus 7 that has replaced my Kindles. I can't really stand eInk anymore. My Kindles are collecting dust. I use my Kindle Fire for gaming and a back up. I held on to my K4 for outdoor reading but now I've moved I don't feel safe enough to take one outside or even go outside and read. I never really could read long periods of time on my PW1 as it hurt my eyes no problems reading for hours on my Nexus 7.

And I have gone from loving my Nexus 7 to going back to loving my eink readers. The shine on tablets, the glare, bothers me. The size and weight annoys me. The screen, size, weight and perfect simplicity of the Kobo reader pleases me in every way. My tablets are gathering dust, they get used for a bit of web browsing, games, news apps, that's about it.

My sentiments too BookLover--I do read on my iPad occasionally, but the glare bothers me too. Unless it's completely dark, I find I have to tilt it at just the right angle not to get some sort of glare or reflection on the screen. I wouldn't want to give up my iPad though--love it for e-mails, surfing, netflix, etc. And I do love the Marvin App for reading--wish that I could have all the features of Marvin on my PW2--that would be the best of both worlds for me.

I have no glare on my Nexus 7. It must be different lighting.

If your screen is glaringly bright, why not just turn the brightness down?

I don't think they're talking about the brightness, but the glossiness of the screen surface and light being reflected (glare).

Certainly with a tablet you need to position yourself such that there are no bright lights reflecting from the screen, yes; that's always been the case with tablets (and with LCD monitors, for that matter, too).

I read about equally on my PW2 and my iPad Retina Mini, and find both to be excellent devices.

Same for me. My only concern over the next three days is I need to travel to work so do I take my iPad mini or my PW2 as it's going to very sunny

If it's going to be sunny, and you're only going to use the device for reading, the PW would be the logical choice. If you need to do other stuff too, take both .

Yes, that's it precisely. I have tried all different lighting levels. (I don't like it when the brightness is really low). I'll play around with the Nexus some more, maybe I need a different background. I'm going on a child-free vacation in a few days, so usually have lots of reading time. I'll change up the settings and give it a concerted try.

Exactly the opposite for me!
I've stopped using eInk devices about 18 months ago for roundabout 6 months.
Back then, my experience was similar to yours: My numerous tablets are good enough for reading, plus I can do so much more on them.
But: Since eInk devices offer light, I've bought 3 of them: Kindle Paperwhite 2, Nook GlowLight and Kobo Aura HD.
I still prefer the weight and battery duration of eInk devices over tablets. And when in bed (I'm reading about 3 hours every night in bed), I don't need the extra functionality of tablets. I'm not playing games, watching movies, listen to music and such at night.
But I don't have any problems at all with reading on tablets.
Tomorrow, on a brief business trip, I'll take with me: iPad mini Retina, Dell Venue 8 Pro, Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and Kindle Paperwhite 2.
iPad mini Retina as my main gadget.
Dell Venue 8 Pro as my mobile machine for business.
Kindle Fire HD 8.9 because I've installed quite a few apps in the last few days and want to test them.
Kindle Paperwhite 2 as my main reading device.
I'm traveling a lot. From 1 day trips to 10 days. Usually I don't have a problem taking a few devices with me. Most of the times it's 2 tablets and 1 reader.
Whether I take iPad mini Retina with me or add Kindle Paperwhite 2 doesn't make much of a difference. Even if I don't have a suitcase with me, but only a briefcase, those highly mobile devices don't take much space and easily can be transported.
