Mwhahaha... if you see how much audiophiles can spend on the cables alone... then £230 buys you one jack plug.

(I've actually seen 'audiophile HDMI cables' costing €199 for a 3m cable... AFAIK, a cable working with digital signals can never have quality loss: it works, or it doesn't.)

Let's not go off on that same tangent again, please.

I only own 2, the K3 belongs to someone else in the house! And yes, I am speaking as clearly an non-audiophile but more importantly, someone who appreciates the value of money. I don't mind paying for quality, just within reason. For example, I love reading, but would never have been an early adopter of ereaders paying £300+ for one like some people.

I won't. I never heard any difference between any HDMI cables. And my network doesn't become faster when using shorter cables either (as some people will claim...)

The speed of light (and electrons) physics still apply.
Short is faster...

But the test equipment to measure the difference costs $100k

"Fast" in a network generally refers to the amount of data you can pump through it each second, and the length of the cable doesn't affect that; it only affects how quickly the data reaches the other end.

<sigh> digital data is transmitted as pure real analog electrical signals. Long wire runs can increase electrical resistance and signal loss, resulting data errors that may result in missing information, degrading quality or need be addressed by retransmission, resulting in slower realized speeds. Just because digital signals don't have the same cable issues as analog doesnt mean they dont have issues. They do.

Wire? How quaint . I was of course referring to fibre optics, which don't suffer from that problem.

Fiber optics similarly require repeaters to compensate for attenuation and distortion over long runs.

"Long runs" in this case refers to many km. Using a 3m rather than a 1m cable, which is what was being discussed here, isn't going to make the slightest difference.

Well, we weren't REALLY talking about fiber optics, now, were we...? We weren't really talking about cables at all, come to think of it.
As a matter of fact it's really just an...um..matter of fact.
