Sorry I have to laugh. I have not even turned on my A/C yet. I only run it from June 1st - Sept 15th and if the days are nice and cool I turn the a/c and open the windows. I know the humidity in Kentucky did not seem much different than in Texas. never been to NC so I don't know if it is different
I use to work with steel. 110+ degree temperature in the factory. Heat is nothing to me. It is the cold I can't take ![]() |

This type of oscillating fan is very effective at cooling a room - it moves a lot of air:

I second the Lasko fan. I have one in my bedroom and it really moves the air.

It's the area where my husband is from. I had no choice in the decision. I'd never had left Tennessee if it was just me.

Congrats on getting the place.
I have central air here, but my bedroom and my office are in the sun almost all day so I also have a window unit in my office (which is ridiculous considering I have central air, but much needed). I also have my ceiling fans going almost constantly and have an oscillating fan in my bedroom for the nights that are really bad. If I have the A/C on high enough to cool my bedroom and office the rest of the house is too cold and the basement becomes a freezer (not to mention the cost ![]() |

It's nearly 90F today and the bedrooms are 75F with both ceiling fans on high. Wall unit in living room has not shut off in hours. It's 68F in living room and 70F 8 feet away from me. The unit is on 64.
Maintenance came today and fixed a lot problems so all burners now work and the sink now drains and they found the knob to the freezer and install a ice maker. Oh and two new Window screens. I haven't reported the loose outlets yet. My phone charger hangs out half way on 3 of them. TW should be here tomorrow to install Internet and we also get our stacked washer and dryer as well. We also asked about locks and have to wait till manager is back but I will feel much safer once they are installed the deadbolt lock is flimsy they use here. No bottom lock either so we are gonna ask if we can install better ones. |

Trying to run an A/C unit at a 30 F differential from the exterior temp will burn out your A/C unit fast - they have to cycle to rest the moving parts and let the motor cool down. That's why I suggested the oscillating fan - cool down your air overnight and then move it around during the day. Moving air just feels cooler.
For really hot days, set the thermostat at the highest possible temp (say 74) you can stand, and then decrease the setting gradually by degrees as the air mass is cooled down - this allows the unit to cycle and not work as hard. |

Thanks again for all the tips I'm copying it all into evernote.
So I turn the AC to 66 and it turned off. The room temp right by the unit is 72F so if I was to turn. It to 70F it wouldn't kick on till it was super hot in here. It got up to 73F with it on 66 so I put it on 64. At 66 it was cycling but turning off at 72F and turning on at 73F so I think the sensor is messed up. The hotel unit had this problem too. Any ideas? It's a LG wall unit big and long like a hotel one. |
