Yeah, I want the sub-folders, and complete support of mobi features and html would be nice, but I'm working around such things and I really don't carry that many books with me. but every time I hit that #%#$% mp3 button by mistake, I swear at it, and the back button takes me back to the library instead of to the book I was reading. grump.
Good point. This amazing lack of ability to reconfigure the buttons - especially when certain buttons cause such frustration to end-users - is definitely a "bug" which has not been fixed. Given that we've heard complaints about this for some time, I'm surprised that this hasn't been dealt with yet.

No. I did not bother to check if the FAQ or the formal spec made the statement so therefore I wrote "If". The point was that just because something is not explicitly stated does not mean that it is not implied by another things.

I want the feature -- quite badly. However, no matter how many of us desire it and complain, I can't see calling it a bug by any reasonable definition. It was never a promised feature, unless one assumes such a promise is implied by the ability to use a 2GB SD card.

Hopefully this will be moot with even newer firmware in the near future.

Remember that the Gen3 can also be used as a (rather primitive) MP3 player - that was probably more the envisaged use of large memory cards.

I have to agree. The term "bug" is not a value judgment based on how important an issue is. A bug is a malfunction, a feature not working as specified. This is a feature request. It's an addition, not a fix, no matter how many people want it.

In thew other firmware thread, I've just read a couple of messages say that PDF support is now not working properly. Has anyone in this thread found PDF support to now be not functioning the way it used to?

If someone had flashed my firmware while I was sleeping I wouldn't have noticed it.

I haven't noticed any change either positive or negative.

IMO just because a lot of people expected a feature doesn't classify it as a "bug". When they claim you can store 10,000 books on the device this is misleading advertising just like the "8,000 pages" claim on the battery life. If we are to classify misleading advertising as a bug then almost every software company that publishes a "minimum hardware specification" would have a huge bug.

I'm disappointed there weren't more new features implemented. They must be understaffed in the software development department if these are the only changes from 6 months of effort. I hope they are increasing their development resources or considering an open development alternative.

I still love my Cybook though, just hope they keep making it better and better.

The version number in the "About" box has definitely changed - and it now lets you display all the menus in French.

My PDF files work just like they did before the firmware update - no noticeable difference whatsover.

What is the "reduced power consumption" about??? I was very happy with the battery life already. Any speculation on what they did to reduce power consumption?

As for folder support, oh come on, stop wasting virtual web page space. No case at all. You can read their claim any way you like, but the fact remains that they never promised a specific management mechanism such as folders. They didn't even claim that it is *PRACTICAL* to store thousands of files. Besides I can/do use my PC to create folders as I like, just hide extra files I am not using at the moment.

To put things in perspective, considering how much money we are paying for this and future updates (the grand total of $0), you should be thankful and not complain. Besides it is certain to show up at some point. Have some patience.

Well, if you look at things that way, they're withholding from me the ability to program my own reader for Cybook, the one that would have all abilities I need, and none of the bugs I noticed. I don't know what they gain or lose by withholding that (maybe $0), especially seeing another reader that gives its users those abilities, and it adds to its popularity, but those are the facts. I wouldn't need to wait if not for their decision.

This may be coincidence but I have been using my Cybook on average every other day since Christmas and now less than 24 hours after updating it it no longer works.

When I switch it on it doesn't get past the 2nd start-up screen (the one with all the small writing and the small image of the Cybook). It is stuck in a loop re-displaying the second screen every few seconds until I press the reset button on the back. I can't get a USB connection and removing the SD card makes no difference. I'd used it twice since updating with no problem but when I went to use it for the third time it wouldn't work and it hadn't been connected to the computer or had its SD card touched in between uses.

I'm off to search the forum for a possible solution.

I think I'd try running the update again.

That was the first thing I tried but it appeared to abort it. It took much less time than when I first updated it and afterwards the problem was still there. Still searching for a solution.
