Back when the first Kindle arrived (my first ebook reader, previously used my mac) I updated every year till Kindle Fire and gave my previous Kindles to family. I stll have the fire but it doesn't see much use. I got a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 last year because it was so cheap, $150 and I wanted to play with a android machine. Out of all my machines I use my iPad3 the most and don't feel the need to update. It's been over 8years and about 10 machines and nothing has ever broke on me.

I upgraded because I wanted lit screens, but I wouldn't necessarily upgrade for a new technology. It depends on how much I thought I'd appreciate it.

Honestly, I can appreciate lit screens technology lately. Some of the new medical offices have such poor area lighting, it makes reading near impossible for those who have to wait for others. I don't know why they are doing that. It's a medical facility, not a hotel.

Going back on topic, if anything goes wrong with the Mini I think I'll upgrade because I need a portable and life-proof ereader to take out and about. And this can't be the Aura HD. Or can it? ![]() |

My Sony PRS-T1 does what I need. I am OK with a clip-on light for the rare occasion when room lighting is not enough. I don't currently plan to upgrade until something goes wrong with the T1.

I'd upgrade if offered the features I really want: At least 16G memory and/or a sd slot, software that can handle large libraries and better library management altogether.
The current screens are as good as I need. I don't use a light. I only tolerate touch screens. I don't need social media bells and whistles, I don't even really need internet connection since I don't load my books that way. I don't need syncing between devices. The current battery is good enough though I wouldn't mind an even longer lasting one. I would upgrade, but only if the "upgrade" was really an improvement to me not just something that some developer thought was "cool" but wasn't useful to me. It must be because of new technology. In the past 4 years I've had 7 readers and none of them broke.

I upgrade before my tech wears out. I'm careful with my ereaders so I don't have breakage as an excuse for replacement. It's usually a feature that I want that draws me to a new device, but even then, I try to wait until I see what others think about it.
I started with the Sony 505 as my first dedicated ereader - it was the Kinde 3/3g that drew me next. I was drawn to the Kindle basic because of it's light weight and the Paperwhite 2 because of the lighting. Hopefully, I'll be good with that for awhile. I can't think of any other feature that would draw me away. In tablets (which I also use as an ereader at times) I really liked my 1st Gen Kindle Fire, but it seemed to be having more issues keeping up with web pages, etc. I finally upgraded to the Fire HD2 because I got a $60 gift card and the 16 GB model went down by $40. It was hard to say no to a $69 upgrade. ![]() Now, phones are a different matter.... Last edited by RDaneel54; 04-02-2014 at 06:42 PM. Reason: spelling |

I upgrade to the latest and greatest toys. So far I own four Kindles (2 PW's, a Fire HD and a Fire HDX), a self driving car and have placed on order the new Samsung Galaxy S5 Smart Phone due the middle of April.
Remember, "he, who dies with the most toys, WINS." |
