Now whenever I side-load a public domain book and put in in my To Be Read collection, I get a warning that I have added an item that will not be backed up in the cloud. Big deal. Side-loaded books never have been backed up on Amazon's servers; nor would I expect them to be, but that warning is annoying. It needs a "Do not show again" option.

This drives me crazy as well. I suppose the point is to get me to only get books from Amazon, but all it does is to irritate me out of using their collections system. I need to get around to sending them feedback saying as much.

Yes, though if you're accustomed to the old firmware it's a bit confusing at first to use the new version. You touch once which pops down a list of bookmarks, which happens to include the page you're on and draws an unfilled bookmark symbol at the top of the page, so when you first use it it appears that it has added the bookmark. If you then click away, there's no bookmark. To actually add it you have to hit the little + symbol in the current bookmark entry in the list, which closes the list and fills in the bookmark symbol. If you click on any other entry it shows you a preview of that location in a window, which you can then click in to jump to that bookmark. To clear a bookmark (including the current page), you select it from the list (the current page's bookmark is preselected when you open the list) and then press the X symbol next to the entry.

It's actually quite a good system, once you get used to it, but it did take me a few minutes to figure it out at first. It wasn't immediately clear that it didn't just add a bookmark to the current page like it used to. I understand why it doesn't; the bookmark hotspot at the top of the screen has been repurposed for calling up the bookmark interface, not for adding/clearing the bookmark.

I can't see the goodreads and the free time on my Kindle 5.4.4. Does is have to do with my localization, being outside of US? And I can't see other features, I guess or I don't know how to acess them

On my Kindle the new features only showed up after I connected it to Wifi.

IIRC, it needs to be registered to a US account. Wether you're actually in or outside the US at the time is not relevant (so far).
