The one I linked to was on last Friday evening, it's the first in the 3rd season, I believe. nekokami was answering my question about which episode they blew up Patricia's old school in.

I rather liked Christopher Eccelston, myself (though I'll gladly refrain from typing his name again!), he really did an excellent job with the role, in my opnion.

I didn't find the change to Davin Tennant jarring (much more typing-friendly name, that one), but then I did watch the re-runs of the old series on PBS back in the days when the BBC had a seven year embargo on exporting their programming, so I had already adjusted to the idea that The Doctor wears many faces. I find the changing of The Companions bothers me more, because they're distinct individual characters, and no part of them carries over to the next, whereas there is a degree of continuity with The Doctor. However, I think that dichotomy of the Companions changing and The Doctor remaining (sorta) the same, and what that does to the characters is one of the more interesting aspects of the show. So there you go.

That would probably be during that psychotic episode I had, but they could never pin it on me.

Now now, send around your seconds. Let's do this properly.

I actually saw a Tennant episode first (the same one we've been talking about with the exploding school, actually). But when I saw the pictures of Eccelston in the role, back before they started filming, I remember thinking, "That can't be the Doctor. No way!" Then I saw the first episode much later, and really liked him. I think he looked too serious in the still shot I saw, perhaps.

So it's probably good that I'd seen a Tennant episode first, because it made it a lot easier to be prepared to like him at the switch. But I grew up on Tom Baker as the Doctor, anyway, and later Peter Davidson, so I'm used to the idea of the Doctor changing.

Seconds? Yes, please. Especially on ... pie!

I think that Tom Baker is my favorite doctor too. I have an 10' long scarf.

Some friends and I pooled our funds to make a donation to our local PBS station once to get the directions to knit the scarf... and then realized that not only could none of us knit, but we didn't know anyone else we could talk into knitting one, let alone one for each of us.

For Halloween the following year, I bought three cheap knitted scarves in different colors, cut them apart into 6-inch sections, and sewed them back together into one very long striped scarf. I also got a white felt hat (it was the cheapest one they had), and dyed it brown. I already had the curly hair.

I've forgotten now what I did about a coat....

Big deal. I have a 20' long small intestine (I really should give it back, but its colour matches my eyes so perfectly).

Cheers,
Marc (who still likes Tom Baker in Little Britain )
