Kobo Aura covers - Page 5

I ordered Nov 14 from Walnew on eBay, and it came today, Nov 25. It's perfect! The red is a little "redder" than I'd hoped (my hubby's Glo case is a deep red, this is sort of the old-red-car-faded-in-the-sun-red) but it's quite slim and fits perfectly, and it doesn't put it to sleep when I fold the cover back (a problem I had with two Glo covers). I've taken my Aura on three trips in an Oberon sleeve, which gives great protection while it's sleeved, but I was always worried I'd drop it or something reading it naked (the Kobo, not me!) and I'm so glad to have a proper cover at last!

Glad you like it Selina! Mine has been "departing from Shanghai" for the last two weeks now. It's been something like a month and a half since I ordered it... everyone seems to like it a lot so I guess it's just something to look forward to now!

Went into an Indigo store here in Canada and bought an official Kobo SleepCover for my Kobo Aura (non-HD). There were several textures, materials, and colours.

I prefer fabric to leather or vinyl, and so bought one of the two fabric options that was on offer: they had a gray fabric and a pale green (very pale, like celery). I opted for the green -- although Kobo actually calls this colour "aqua;" someone needs to adjust their monitor). It has a coarser weave to the fabric than does the gray one, making it easier to grip, and, to my mind, more pleasant to touch.

The front cover can be folded over behind the ereader, but it's stiff and difficult. However, I did not have the problem with the magnet turning the device off when I did so that others have reported.

I like the Kobo Glo SleepCovers better than the Aura ones (although they can't be used with the Aura): the four corner clips work better than the two side clips; the two side clips have sharpish corners that dig into my hands, and I frankly don't want business-card slots and so forth cluttering up my inside front cover (also, given that the Aura screen is flush with the bezel, rather than recessed, one needs to be particularly careful of it; putting anything in those slots is just asking for trouble.

My cover had a couple of small defects in the fabric, initially hidden by the packaging: two knots of the weave that stick out a bit from the rest of the front cover. They're not visible, but they're easily felt. But they're not anywhere you might touch when you're actually reading, and I've decided they actually are a "feature."

See, the front and the back covers are identical. When you reach out to pick up the ereader, it's very difficult to tell if its front or back is to you, and so you might end up opening it up upside down. I now feel for the two knots, like Braille, as I pick up the device and thus know how to orient it in my hand.

The only thing that distinguish up from down is the word "Kobo," which appears on the SPINE of the Sleep Cover -- and, for a company that prides itself on its international presence, that's a poor choice. They've positioned it at the top of the spine reading down (as we do with book spines in North America) not at the bottom of the spine reading up (as they do with book spines in many other parts of the world, witness the splash screen that calibre displays when starting).

As always, I think covers (for ereaders, smartphones, and tablets) are vastly overpriced; this one was $40 Canadian. But I do more or less like this one, and it looked better than any of the cheaper third-party ones I saw on eBay, although, as I said above the design of the SleepCovers for the Glo (and the Mini) is nicer.

I think the official cover is nice but I do think it adds to the bulk maybe more than it should, mostly in the thickness really. Maybe unfair

I prefer reading without a cover but the covers are just so useful when you are out and about and need to slip it in a bag quickly whilst on the train etc

I like it! Too bad that the $17 cost of shipping to the US is prohibitive; adding that to the price of the cover and it'll cost $60

I've ordered the one from China and it won't get here until January but tbh the more I use the Kobo Sleep cover the more I like it as the front doesn't touch the screen.

I've just received my replacement case from China and am pleased to say that the sleep/wake function works perfectly. For those of you still waiting, I hope your covers arrive soon.

I feel the same way, I ordered on Oct. 25, so well over a month now. It supposedly left China on Nov. 6 and for the 10 days after that the tracking number was even in the Canada Post tracking system but after that nothing, so I suspect I will never see it.

I thought no international mail crossed oceans on ships or row boats anymore. Maybe new environmental policy caused this slower mail or just stuck in customs.

Chinapost still says "departed Shanghai." Just checked USPS for the first time and it says "Origin Post is Preparing Shipment." No way of telling how long that notice has been there for.... Perhaps I'll try reaching out to them tomorrow.
