You have to extrapolate a bit, but I think Childhood's End, by Arthur C. Clarke, fits.

I just read The Age of Miracles, after seeing this thread. Loved it! I read it in a day.
How about "One Second After", by William R. Forstchen? Not the 'end of the world' for everyone, but definitely the end of life as we know it for the U.S. A depiction of what would happen if an EMP shut down all the electronics. (I have the hardcover edition, LOL!) I had picked up parts 1-5 of Wool as a freebie, just hadn't read it, but I'm now reading that, and I've purchased the remaining books in the series for 1/2 price, with Kobo discount coupons. |

Far North by Marcel Theroux
Out on the frontier of a failed state, Makepeace—sheriff and perhaps last citizen—patrols a city’s ruins, salvaging books but keeping the guns in good repair. Into this cold land comes shocking evidence that life might be flourishing elsewhere: a refugee emerges from the vast emptiness of forest, whose existence inspires Makepeace to reconnect with human society and take to the road, armed with rough humor and an unlikely ration of optimism. What Makepeace finds is a world unraveling: stockaded villages enforcing an uncertain justice and hidden work camps laboring to harness the little-understood technologies of a vanished civilization. But Makepeace’s journey—rife with danger—also leads to an unexpected redemption. Currently listed in The Big Deal: Kindle Books Up to 85% Off. It's in their Science Fiction & Fantasy Deals section but definitely scratched my post apocalypse itch and not a zombie to found anywhere. |
