OK, I've voted for 4 books. But I want to move #4 to position #1. How do I do that without unvoting for all 4 and revoting? See, this is where listmania falls flat and craps out big time. Please give it up and do it via my suggestion because A text editor is so much easier to move the order around until the list is finalized.

Not to sound rude, but why are you telling people what to do? Are you a MR boss?
Why don't you do it yourself? After all, the people who voted on listopia voted for few books and added a few books. None of them went and added 50 books at once.
I think you are taking something that is casual too serious.

Look at your votes, and at the top right there is "Edit my Votes". Click it and it brings up a list on the right side of the page with all your votes and a number with the position in your list. Just change the numbers to your new ranking.

I used listopia because they put a lot of thought into how a large group of people can create a dynamic ordered list.

Also The Dying Earth was a collection of short stories even if the following books was not. But they were episodic if I remember correctly.
