If you're like me and can't resist a big bargain for any of Susan Cooper's Dark is Rising series, Kindle Daily Deal has the second book, The Dark is Rising for $0.99 at Amazon (US).

Edit: I mean: whether using the mobi version, or converting via calibre (which fixes a lot of problems), either way avoids using the original Phoenix Pick epub. I find converting mobi to epub gives better results with Phoenix pick books than converting epub to epub, but either is better than using the original epub. The first four volumes in Richard Kadrey's Sandman Slim series are on sale at Amazon US for $1.99 each:

Sandman Slim "The best B movie I've read in at least twenty years. An addictively satisfying, deeply amusing, dirty-ass masterpiece, Sandman Slim swerves hell-bent through our culture's impacted gridlock of genres!it's like watching Sergio Leone and Clive Barker co-direct from a script by Jim Thompson and S. Clay Wilson." William Gibson "If Simon R. Green wrote an episode of Dog the Bounty Hunter, it would read much like Sandman Slim -- violent, vivid, non-stop action of the supernatural kind. I couldn't put it down." Charlaine Harris "The most hard-boiled piece of supernatural fiction I've ever had the pleasure of reading. ! all confident and energetic and fresh and angry. I loved this book and all its screwed-up people." Cory Doctorow, author of Little Brother "Paced like greased lightning (watch out for friction burns on your turning finger), blend the movie-ish delights of tough guy noir and such smart-mouthgore-fests as "Reanimator" and "Army of Darkness", seasoned by soupcons of Gaimanian romanticism and Koontzian sentiment." Kill the Dead Sandman Slim is back from Hell. After wreaking unholy havoc in author Richard Kadrey’s resoundingly acclaimed Sandman Slim, the demon-slaying anti-hero and half-angel fugitive from the underworld returns in a brutally funny, eye-poppingly inventive, and totally addicting follow-up, Kill the Dead. Lucifer’s onetime personal assassin as signs on as his ex-boss’ Hollywood bodyguard…and takes on the zombie apocalypse almost single-handedly. Aloha from Hell in number three, Aloha from Hell, the ruthless avenger, a.k.a. Stark, finds himself trapped in the middle of a war between Heaven and Hell. With God on vacation, the Devil nosing around in Paradise, and an insane serial killer doing serious damage on Earth, Stark/Slim is ready to unleash some more adrenaline-surging, edgy and violent supernatural mayhem—and even pay another visit to Hell if necessary Devil Said Bang In his previous three adventures—Sandman Slim, Kill the Dead, and Aloha from Hell—Stark has fled Hell for California, taken on angels, demons, outlaw bikers, zombies, covert government operatives, and all manner of monsters, while saving humankind from total annihilation on numerous occasions. But in Devil Said Bang, he finally assumes the role he was destined for: as the new Lucifer, ruler of the Underworld. |

Have fun trying to convert this to anything in Calibre. EDIT: OK - by using the KindleUnpack plugin I was able to convert this to epub, but the standard conversion tools wouldn't work. Last edited by caleb72; 05-14-2013 at 12:10 PM. |
