Have you requested/gotten a replacement Paperwhite?

So what's the verdict? Are those with two or more unsatisfactory replacements going to throw in the towel and return them for a refund? Or, will you wait closer to the 30-day window to detect further degradation, improvement or color changes?

Remember the mood rings years ago that changed colors? That's what I'm calling my PW -- Mood Kindle. It's detecting mine -- bad.

I'm getting my 3rd KPW-3G tomorrow. Hubby is getting his 2nd KPW-wifi today. That's going to be it for us. I'll either keep the best one and live with it or go back to the K4B.

I have a total of two bad units (so one original, one replacement, both cloudy). I'm holding off for a few days on returning #2 to see if other people start getting acceptable replacements. Leaning towards going back to my KK, though.

I cannot here mention most of the names I'm calling my PW these days!

Quite frankly though, from the same era as the mood rings I also remember the pet rock, and I'm not sure my PW is much more functional than the pet rocks were.

I really cannot think of a good alternative to the PW, other than just keep using my Touch with its golden-tan screen. If the Fire HD had a Kindle app as good or nearly as good as the PW firmware, then I would consider that as an option. But the original Fire I had used a nearly featureless Kindle app, so I doubt they have improved it that much in the past few months.

So I guess for now i'll hang on to my replacement and see if it improves. If not I'll just return it. No more replacements for me.

Can't speak to the legitimacy of this, but if anyone else is told something similar, please let us know. This is the kind of action I'm hoping for on Amazon's behalf.

I don't know what to do. When I got my PW it looked wonderful. That was in the daylight, in a brightly lit room. I looked at it in a dark room, still daylight and it was nice and it was at a high light number. I wrote my little review. That night reading in bed was not so nice. Blotches galore. Very distracting. Mine at night looked like Jack's photos. Called, got a replacement quickly and have been trying to love it. I do like the touch, the covers and I like it during the day, but I don't like it at night. And that is what I got it for. This second one is blotchy too. It is like marbled paper. Not as bad as the 1st one though. I have been waiting for it to "dry out", for my eyes to adjust, but I stopped reading within 15 minutes last night because it bothers me. I am not adjusting. The whole point of getting it was to read in a black dark room. During the day I have other kindles to read with.

I was wondering about the k4b with a light too. Aside from Blossom has anyone talked about that kindle? I have the k4s and wonder if there is enough difference with the new. Does it have the covers? The new location locators? Oh good grief do I return this one too? I am not angry about it, I am just very disappointed.

Mine shipped back to NV, but I never heard anything about the special tracking. I should think they have keywords associated with CS calls, so if that is true we should eventually get a similar mail, but i haven't got one yet. Also, if that is true, and that is a big IF, it means their engineers currently are clueless as to the problem.

I really think it is a toss of the dice at this point whether one receives a reasonably good device or not. Although Amazon is aware of the problem, as disclosed by some of the Kindle "Specialists," it will be some time before results are seen from any production/design changes if they are to occur. And, as techiegirl mentioned, we all have only two choices -- either live with what we have or return and perhaps order again in the future when, hopefully, the problem has been rectified.

I have the K4S and the K4B and agree with Blossom, the K4B has the best contrast and nicest background color I have seen in an ereader. The software is exactly teh same, no covers/touch/cloud access.

Me 3. The K4B does look better than the K4S or the KT. I do wish it had the same software as the KPW, but that's not the case.

Just to clarify, do you guys mean the current 'inexpensive', non-PW kindle when you say K4B? This one over here?

Third replacement, wow. I wonder if it's even still worth it.

I now have five units and need to send either all or most of them back, but every time I think one may be better than the other, I realize that they all have their issues, and I just need to figure out whether I would be happy with any of them.

Forget the light cones, if at least they all had a uniform beige background for the rest of the screen, I'd be satisfied.

That is the correct model. I've never heard about the personal docs issue though.
