My wife and I are seriously considering dumping our Kindles for the Kobo Glo. For a couple of reasons.
1. The absolutely ridiculous fact that Overdrive will not support the Kindle at our Canadian libraries. Yes I use "Other tools" to get around it but it is still a pain.

2. I hate feeling like a second class person. I almost feel like we have to beg to get the Kindle. and I know that every one (Apple, Google) etc. treat us the same way.
Oh well, thanks for letting me rant.

Nothing wrong with those reasons whatsoever bbesse, and it'd only be Amazon's fault if they lost you as a customer - but it's probably worthwhile waiting for a month or so to see what kind of feedback there is on the Kobo Glo. The one thing that puts me of Kobo is how the Kobo Touch is currently still getting firmware updates to fix things (and add new options), but each update seems to cause new issues. I think the software is something both Amazon and Sony do better than Kobo. Things might improve with the new e-readers, but I'd be tempted to wait and see before spending my money....

That previous launch was shockingly poor, you have reports from eink about orders being weaker than expected, amazon never being out of stock and then it still takes over six months to launch by which time many will have decided not to bother buying one.

While I wouldn't stop using my kindle, I am more likely to use my tablet with the evenings drawing in and my kindle is less useful when waiting for a tram or bus then and the obvious difference then is that those have more bookstores and other apps on them so I end up reading and buying less for my kindle.

How would a Canadian go about ordering a PW anyway? I've pretty much decided on one, and I'm fine having it sent to a friend in the states, then having him ship it north for me. Should I expect for it to be as easy as just ordering on amazon.com with my Canadian credit card and bill-to address, and having the ship-to address be American, or are there some other hoops I should expect to jump through?

Looking forward to the PW.

If you have it shipped to a friend in the US, no hoop is needed at all. Just give his address as the delivery address and pay with your canadian credit card. Amazon only cares about the physical address being in the US.

Yes I have received the e-mail from Amazon.de about the Kindle Paperwhite too.

But the sad thing is they do not ship to Switzerland from Germany. They refered to the US site, but Amazon.com only ships the conventional Kindle to Switzerland.

I'm not sure what is going on. I guess at some point I'm supposed to order the Paperweight from the US after all US customer got one.

Cheers
