The old "hack" with the .assets file and with the linking of the screensaver-directory doesn't work anymore.
I also try to get how can I do that with the 4.1.0 firmware. Or just to restore to 4.0.1 and then try the update with keeping the custom screensavers. |

I am having trouble seeing any improvement in the K4 contrast. For me what is really needed is to get the background closer to white, like it is on my K3.

It's really important when you buy a Kindle from Amazon to use the good shipping so it easier to exchange them through UPS. |

Indexing takes alot of juice. So as you load more books the larger the index database becomes and the more battery is used. My K3 has the same issues. I also have a large archive which doesn't help when you sync everything.

@JSWolf/Blossom: Because the framework checks the consistency/refreshes the index database (at least) every time the device wakes up. The more stuff there is indexed, the more CPU time it takes, the more battery it drains

Makes sense. I got close to 150 books on my Kindles at the moment and 2600 Archived books.

Why does it have to update the index every time it wakes up? Is this from sleep mode where the images are shown?

So is there any way to get custom screensavers for those of us starting with version 4.1.0?

Note that I didn't say 'update', I said 'check the integrity'
![]() It might be a bit aggressive on that front, but on the other hand, it does have to do *something* to check that the index of a book points to the right book, or that that book hasn't been updated from under its foot, or that there's not some new annotations that snuck in... And same thing when it checks for new contents, it also needs to check/purge the database to prune index pointing to deleted/modified content, and then check/index said new contents. (I'm not privy on the details of the implementation, and it might very well not be the most battery-friendly choice, but it does try to ensure accuracy & consistency, which is what they aimed for, I think). I don't know the extent of what it's doing exactly when you wake it up, but it is doing something, especially if you wake it on the Home screen, as the logs and a top output can attest to ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 06-08-2012 at 08:04 PM. |
