Wishful thinking. It isn't in Apple's best interest to make a 7" tablet. The price would have to be lower because of the smaller size and they can't compete with the Fire on price. Actually the can, but they won't. I'm not saying that there wouldn't be buyers, but if the numbers are at Android levels it's just not worth it for them.

I ruled the Fire and Nook Tablet out early on. They are too basic for what I want. I get that they work for a lot of folks but I wanted something more powerful and that I could use out of the box without hacking. That left me with fewer, more expensive options. I probably would go with a 7 inch IPad over a Fire for the same reason. There is not enough memory on the Fire and. It has tone hacked to do a fair amount. No thanks.

However, considering that the names of Apple programmers were found in the Franklin bios, I think it's safe to assume that Franklin didn't reverse engineer the entire thing. ![]() Quote:

They've done it. It is a fait accompli. Remember the Mac Clones? When Jobs came back to Apple he made it a policy to end clones and even sued Psystar out of business. They also sued quite a few hardware vendors in the Apple II era, not just Franklin. They're not the only company to use lawsuits to minimize competition but they are one of the most agressive. That can hardly be disputed. If it works for them and their customers... (shrug) Last edited by fjtorres; 04-27-2012 at 09:16 AM. |

Official mac clones => licenced not renewed.
Psystar = meh. I wonder what Microsoft's response would be to a company that sold hardware with a hacked version of Windows on it? http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/intellec...eits-40094735/ I'm not an Apple evanglist. I use some of their stuff now, and have owned a couple of macs over the year, but mostly I use what works for me at the time. I guess I just can't understand the (what seems to me to be undue) animosity toward the company and the users of it's products. It's not like Apple is making airbook cases out of compressed kittens... |

I heard really mixed reviews about the Archos products. Some people loved them and some people hated them. My Hubby has a 4 inch Archos player that is alright but not great. I just could not feel comfortable that they would do what I wanted to do hassel free. I would rather pay more money for a product that I know will work and work well then less money for a product that has been problemastic for some folks. The Samsungs and the IPad have great reviews and tend to have very happy customers so that is what I narrowed down to.

You know who else was mesmerized by that shiny Apple logo? Herb Sutter, the chair of the C++ standards committee (C++ is a programming language used in some of the most demanding computing applications ever). Even fear of losing his job as lead software architect on C++/CLI compilers at Microsoft didn't stop him from blindly buying the shiny Apple, as can be evidenced in his recent blog posting: http://herbsutter.com/2012/04/24/mobile-vs-pc/ He was even playing music from his iPhone the last time I saw him! Brainwashed I tell you! Yep, the blind ignorant masses... Last edited by twowheels; 04-27-2012 at 12:35 PM. |

I do a lot of my music on the go...once I plug in my phone its on my computer. I buy my husband audible books. Direct download to his iTunes with no problems. I hate managing my music...so I don't. If I had to manage this stuff I would no longer buy any music. While I find my books worth the time to manage...I don't feel the same about music. If I had to worry about getting the music from one platform to another I would just never buy any. But that's just me. I expect everyone is different and people will have different needs. Quote:

Simply put: 7" iPad for $499. Convenient. Fits most purses and man-purses. Also inside jacket pockets. They don't have to compete on price. The Apple aficionados would buy it for the regular price, but if they needed an excuse, they could just say they didn't expect to have the same volume for the 7" product. (I hope "Apple aficionado" isn't considered name calling.) |
