So true! I've purchased 10 books with my coupons and found 4 free romances by Zebra Books while searching! Also I won $50 from a TN lottery scratchie which means more books once I cash it in! It feels likes Christmas!

How long is "the longest time"? We've been absolutely swimming in them lately! Since the start of the new year we've had:

15% touchlibrary
25% jan6ca25
25% c1auto25
30% jan12au30
30% jan13ca30
25% survey25

25% jan26ca25
20% feb3au20
20% feb5nz20
25% feb10ca25
20% feb17ca20
late February there was a daily discount code generating contest
40% c4auto40
35% thankyou2012
30% mar2ca30
30% mar02au30 (not the same as the one above)
20% mar09au
40% c4auto40
30% c1auto30
30% c2auto30 (it was reset, even for people who'd used it earlier in the year)
20% mar16ca20
35% c3auto35
35% c2auto35
35% c4auto35
25% c1auto25 (this, and the next 3, are other previous codes that were reset)
$1 JUNE20OFF (a good % if you buy a sub-$5 book)
20% Welcome20
25% c2auto25
20% c1auto20
20% jmar23ca20k
40% c4auto40 (another reset code that could be used again)
45% c4auto45

30% aapr06uk30w
20% anniversary20
75% welcome75ca
50% welcome50ca
30% thankyou30
90% welcome90ca

Keep in mind that many of these codes can be multiplied into 5 codes by switching the country codes around between CA, US, UK, AU, and ROW.

The above ignores codes for specific publishers, or specific series of books, most notably the Kobo Book Club codes (for a free book from a selection each month) and the legendary 85% off the Hunger Games codes everyone was talking about earlier.

So I respectfully disagree with your assessment. I keep track of my Kobo discount codes here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...discount+codes

Whereas some of Amazon's competitors were either pro-Agency (iBooks, Smashwords), or were simply silent on the subject (Sony), Kobo has always been starkly anti-agency.

I suspect the up-tick in Kobo discount codes recently (and in how generous they are) is due to the anticipated end of agency pricing for at least 3 of the big 6 soon. Better now to start building mindshare amongst those who are willing to shop around, eh?

And Kobo has massive financial backing now thanks to Rakuten, which doesn't hurt.

Well, hopefully they do well this weekend and the new people keep coming back for more regular shopping from time to time.

I'm personally going to pick up a bunch of discount Oxford University Press history/biographies which are currently on multi-store promo (just $1.99-$2.99, and couponable at Kobo) to help add to their coffers (they've got J. Robert Oppenheimer written by Abraham Pais; I think I might actually have a paper copy of this somewhere, but ~$2 after a 30% off coupon will be a good use of my money).

And I'll note that if you happen to like sf/fantasy, Jabberwocky Literary Agency has some low-cost offerings from authors which they represent, which include short story collections (~5-7 stories per) by Canadian Tanya Huff and Jim C. Hines at just $2.99 each, DRM-free and couponable: linkage for the lot if anyone's interested (don't get the Mayer Alan Brenner novels via this; he offers them for free Creative Commons download on his website and has a tipjar so you can pay him more directly).

Last edited by ATDrake; 04-22-2012 at 02:27 PM. Reason: Story collections, not individual stories at that price, which would be ridiculous instead of bargain.

These are the steps I use:

1. Import your bundle file into Calibre

2. Edit meta data. Change title from the bundle name to that of one of the individual books. Change the cover to that of the individual book by using the download cover option in Calibre or downloading a cover onto your computer then using the Browse option under the change cover section to select your downloaded file.

3. Tweak epub. Right click on the file in Calibre to open the popup and select Tweak epub. Click the "Explode ePub" button in the new popup this will open a file explorer window. Open the OEPBS folder, here you will see all the indvidual files included in the bundle. If you're lucky you can determine which book they belong to by the file name. If you're not lucky the file names may be a series of somewhat random numbers and letters, however all the files belonging to a single book will likely begin with the same series of numbers and letters. In this case to determine which book is which, click on one of the HTML files. It should open a browser window where you should be able to see the title of the book on the browser's tab. Once you've established what's what, delete all the html files that do not belong to the book you named earlier. When done close the window and click Rebuild epub in the popup that should still be open.

4. Edit TOC. I've been using Sigil to edit my Table of Contents file however you can also use any text editor and edit the file before the Rebuild ePub step. Open file in Sigil, select the toc.ncx file, delete any entries that do not belong to your book. Save file, close Sigil. Regardless of which method you use, you will need at least a rudimentary knowledge of HTML to edit the TOC.

5. Back in Calibre reconvert it to epub.

That's one book done, repeat the process for each book in the bundle starting with importing the bundle file again. If you screw up, don't panic, just the delete the file from Calibre the reimport the bundle file.

You can also do all of the above in Sigil, I prefer the tweak epub method because I can delete multiple files at once. In Sigil you have to delete them one . . at . . a . . time (unless I'm just missing a method of selecting multiple files at once).
Thank you very much. With these instructions and the hints about deleting multiple books in Sigil, I've split a bundle in a fast way.

Thanks for the hint!!!!! I had been trying it on some books that were $9.XX and so it didn't work.

With this in mind, I was able to get the next two in the Manuel Vazquez Montalban/Pepe Carvalho mysteries, which seem to be being issued a couple at a time in e-book by Melville House. (At least, there have been two sets of two issued so far, and I'm hopeful for a few more - although not all that many are available in translation...)

These are good if you like non-US based mysteries - set in Barcelona, with a sort of world-weary (but gourmet) detective.

Both were $10.09 in the US, and so I was able to pick them up for $0.09 each, just like the book my husband bought. And, I was able to tell my husband that he can use the "ca" version of the code as well as the one he received, so he's going to buy another book too. Woo-hoo, and thanks apesmom!

BTW, it's now Monday afternoon, April 23, west coast US time, and they are still working...
