I'll upgrade when it dies. And the one I'd buy would have to:
- Be the same size as K3 (because I don't want to waste such a beautiful cover); - Have physical turn page buttons on both sides; - Dark color; - Flex lighting; - Extremely good battery life. In the meantime I'm tempted to buy T1, but just almost. |

Touch is far superior for looking up definitions. But physical page turn buttons are far superior to tapping the screen to turn the page. The nook offers both, and I like that combination. But it has other limitations that irk me.

I will upgrade when Amazon has a Kindle that has a built in light like the new Nook.

I still have my K2i and I'm more than happy with it so won't be upgrading yet. I do quite like the idea of a glow screen for the occasional night time read but I've yet to see one in action yet.

Assuming my K3 doesn't break, I don't think I would upgrade. If there were an improved screen, maybe. I am not sure I would like the back-lit screen, but of course I haven't seen it. I like the light from my mEdge cover shining down on the screen rather than up at me. I don't like the Touch idea -- I have an iphone, which I love, but I am always wiping it clean. I like the page turn buttons. If my K3 did break right now, I might get another Kindle Keyboard. I also like the fact that it comes with both wifi and 3G. No limitations. Of course, the addition of some really great software to the new ones might also sway me, but not until mine breaks.
Also, as another post just reminded me, the K3 has screen rotation, which I don't use much but is good for some photos. Last edited by krazy4katz; 04-14-2012 at 12:23 PM. |

Sometimes a company just gets it right. Sony did it with the PRS-505 and Amazon did it with the K3. I never even considered the Kindle as an option until the K3 came out and unless something significantly better is offered up I won't even consider replacing my K3.
I was sad to see the direction that Amazon took with the new Kindles and I truly hope that they take a different route with whatever they offer up next. The new models do not seem to really be in line with their past models. They seem to be the same as everything else out there...no uniqueness at all. |

My thoughts too. I am waiting for the next generation, and I'll be especially tempted if it is lighted! Now that it's nearly summer my K3 is perfect for reading outside while floating in the pool. The non-touch screen works great with a waterproof bag that I have.

Yes. That's how I look at it.
What would get me to buy a different device is infrastructure deterioration. For a newshound like myself, the free worldwide 3G internet feature helps make the K3 3G a device I would repair, or buy used, rather than abandon. As does the $1.99 a month New York Times Latest News Blog. As does US public library borrowing. These won't all last forever, just as the avantgo.com news service, which was so big a part of why I liked Palm devices, didn't last forever. When low cost or free parts of the infrastructure dies, so does my interest in the device. P.S. If anyone from Amazon, reading this, thinks that all they have to do is stop the free 3G, and I'll upgrade, think again! I'd more likely switch to something EPUB-compatible. |

I'll upgrade when there is an improved screen. I don't have any other reason to upgrade.
