Wow, small world! I miss that Borders especially. Lots of memories browsing with my then young girls. That was the first place I saw this thing called an e-reader, too.

Oh my goodness they are quite cheap where you guys live. I'm assuming your talking about the newest version Sony ereader? If so, I just went to a best buy here in Ontario and they are going for 149.99 (red, white or black). I got told when they go on sale, they'll go for $119.00. So, I shall wait....

Yes, that is for the T1, but the local Target store is still @ $129.99. I was hoping for $99 last night, so $87 was a very pleasant surprise.

Get to frys.com and get a black reader for $79.99 + a light cover from Sony for $37.49 (25% off when ordered with the T1) for a total of $117.48.

My local Target still has them tagged at $149.99. Surprisingly, they don't seem to be selling many.

Target might match that price. It certainly wouldn't hurt to ask.

Not available online, alas. Only for in store pickup.

Yup. Pretty useless for most of us since they are located only in a handful of US states. Shame they wont honor the price on their website.

The $87 at Bestbuy would seem to be the best overall deal right now.

Why is it when Fry's has a good sale, they don't allow online ordering? I hope Fry's goes bankrupt.

Frys seems to run their web site mainly to support 'in-store-pickup' orders, and even this isn't handled particularly well, as you can order something, give them your credit card, and then get an email 20 minutes later telling you they are out of stock on the item you ordered.

Still, I prefer them to Best Buy, because at least when you show up at the store to buy something on sale, you have some kind of chance that it will ACTUALLY BE THERE. In fact at least 8 out of the last 10 times I went to buy something listed in FRYS advertising flyer on sale, that item was indeed available in-store.

By way of comparison, out of the last 10 times I have tried to buy ANYTHING on "sale" at Best Buy, they were a perfect 10 for 10 on "sorry that item is out of stock, wouldn't you prefer one of our overpriced bait-and-switch alternatives?"

Thanks for the heads up. We have a Fry's in Vegas and I was lucky: they had one left in stock.

I'm mad at myself now. I should have done my homework before going to visit my family in the State of MASS. $87 bucks is an amazing deal compared to our Canadian prices.

I went into a Staples yesterday, one of the employees were telling me that when you purchase a hardcover, some, are offering a free ereader download along with it. I never heard that, but then again I am quite new to the ereader world....

For what it's worth, Best Buy Canada has the Sony on for $139.99 this week. Unfortunately, since Best Buy also has the Kobo Touch on sale for $119.99 and The Source has the Kindle Touch at $139.99, many people will not find Sony's price to be compelling.

Personally, I think the features of the Sony (e.g. EPUB support; multitouch display; integrated dictionaries/Wikipedia/Google; access to public libraries; audio playback; etc.) make it the best e-reader currently available in Canada. However, unless Sony can keep their prices competitive, I'm not optimistic for the future of the product.

BTW, I'd take anything Staples employees say with a grain of salt. I'm not aware of any hardcover books being sold with free downloads; although I'd love to be proved wrong.
