This really is one of the main reasons why I use a reader and not a tablet. I want to focus on the book. I was diagnosed with ADHD last year, after showing symptoms for the last few years (oddly enough, not as a child), and I am better able to get immersed into the book if don't read on a computer or tablet.

We've seen these very same arguments here on MR. It amounts to people with ADD claiming everyone is like them and therefore should be locked away in a silent library or in a small island with a coconut on one hand and a dead tree on the other.
Even so, there is one way for ADD people to enjoy reading on the tablet: uninstall all games and turn of networking. There. Nothing more to distract you but heaps of other books. |

If you use a tablet, and it works for you, good. If it isn't your thing, that's fine too. Now, I've also not seen anyone else make those sort of claims, that everyone needs to be locked down. |

It's also worth considering that different things distract different people. Some are distracted by noise, others by friends/colleagues, many by the Internet, etc.. Yet chances are that a given person isn't distracted by all of the above. |

I used to find the selective mute option on my iPad to be useless. Now it's indispensable, since it silences notifications. They still pop out at the top, but those are fairly easy to tune out compared to the alerts in earlier versions of iOS.
