deannah,
Thanks for the information. (I didn't see any instructions, could not find directions on Amazon. Yes, I am an idiot.) I will reload the file now. ETA: Success! Current version is 6.2.1. Last edited by redbees; 12-19-2011 at 09:16 PM. |

Incremental updates provided OTA MAY (note not are, but MAY) be smaller, but the full OS update comes out to approximately 180MB. Where are you getting this 700MB number? EDIT - The only thing I really wanted from this update I didn't get. That would be having the lock screen properly orient itself for reverse portrait mode. I like having the power button at the top and speakers at the bottom. Maybe next update ![]() |

Just upgraded to 6.2.1. It seems smoother, less twitchy in general. I do appreciate the ability to remove items from the carousel, but the ability to configure it, manually add just my own items and so on would be awfully nice.
Is it just me or did the update go through and add ALL my book to the carousel? I'm talking all the way back to the first book I ever ordered ... four years ago. Overall I'm pleased. I suspect a lot of the improvements are behind the scenes though. I was hoping for more updates to the user interface to give us more options and control. But I'll take more stable and better performance for now. |

I'm not sure I see what you mean. I just flipped mine into reverse portrait and it works fine. I even put the system in standby and back out and its still locked in reverse portrait.

The device works fine in reverse portrait, but the lockscreen is upside down when I turn the device on, so I have to enter my PIN upside down or turn it in order to enter the PIN, then back to reverse portrait to use it.

For me it's by no means a dealbreaker or even anything close to it...but it's just a minor annoyance that you think they would have thought out.
I can see why on phones it makes sense to always have the lock screen in standard portrait mode (location of microphone, any physical buttons, etc.). However, for the Kindle it can really be oriented in almost any direction, so to me it would have made sense to allow it to work in any orientation. I should probably submit that feedback tonight. |

I like it now shows you have internal and application storage now.
So you have to remove items one by one from the Carousel? ![]() ![]() So other then those two I notice there is a list view now but anything else I missed? Last edited by Blossom; 12-20-2011 at 01:58 AM. |

Then I choose the sync option and let it cycle until the animation stops. I wait about 10 seconds after that and press the power button to put it into sleep mode. I wait about 10-15 minutes and go back to the Kindle. At that point it should be updating or already updated. |

I don't know if this is connected to the update or not, but for the 1st time EVER, the Wired Magazine app remembered my username & password, & auto logged me in. This hadn't worked from day 1.
A nice surprise! |

I was unable to force the update this time with the sync and put-to-sleep method, but I sideloaded it with Jeremy's link. I completely cleaned out my carousel (and yes, it is pretty laborious) one item at a time, keeping just what I want on there. I like to use the carousel as my favorites area, because it's easier to use than the existing favorites section. Now that it's clean, it will be no problem to remove something from it when it pops on there after opening. I'm pleased enough. I agree it would be better if it were more customizable, but this does the trick with a little work.
