Mine froze up again yesterday this time wouldn't turn on. Just showed a black screen and it had plenty of charge.
Got mad I did the 30 second hold button thing. nothing Let it sit and tried again Finally restarted itself. Not liking these crashes lately. Last edited by salsaguy; 02-05-2012 at 03:37 PM. Reason: typeo |

I've had my KF seize up a couple of times right after I got it - before Go Launcher was on it and none since so I think the jury is still out.
Did a search on xda-developers and came up with nothing...Google search gave one hit from someone who had not rooted and one from someone who had rooted. I still think this is at the "inconclusive" stage. ![]() |

I put it back on yesterday and took it off again last night. Rotating Wallpaper wasn't working and the whole thing made me nervous. It would be nice if Amazon would add some "legal" alternate launchers. I loved my pretty wallpaper and arranging my apps and widgets just so.

On xda developers there are several threads. I was convinced after reading them. I'm willing to try a root if mine gets bricked but how do you root it if you can't get it to turn on at all. The day mine was misbehaving, it would not turn on at all, not even to the "Kindle Fire" screen. I'm thinking there is nothing you could do with that but I don't have much experience with unbricking other than with desktop computers. |

Over at xda-developers Kindle Fire Forum doing searches on Go Launcher brick and such and failed to come up with much of anything. Maybe two people have mentioned Go Launcher as having caused a problem and were able to resolve it. I fail to see the fuss about this.
Please feel free to post some actual evidence like a link to a thread where everyone says Go Launcher bricked their KF. Instead I saw comments like the following: "wait...how do u brick a whole tablet trying to install a launcher? that's like me bricking my car by spraying windex on the windows. ??? I have had no problems with Go Launcher Ex. Installed different betas no prob. Go launcher on mine also... no issues...." |

You can brick anything by installing something that is incompatible with it's operating system or some other part of its guts. |

I guess it's all about how important it is to you to get away from the stock launcher. To some people, the stock launcher is adequate - it does the job reasonably well, and it doesn't kill them to not have control of their wallpaper.
Personally, I like to group my apps in folders on my home screen, and the stock launcher doesn't allow you that capability. But, not having that capability isn't a show-stopper for me. Other people make messing around with their home screens an actual activity - they love changing the colors and themse and what-have-you. It's kind of like that with rooting too - myself, I don't see that much gained by rooting the Fire, but then I'm not into flashing different ROMs and all that jazz. I already have plenty of other hobbies to keep me busy. |

While I rather not see the KF becoming useless, I haven't had any trouble whatsoever with Go so far on my unrooted device. I have changed themes a number of times, downloaded apps from other stores, changed wallpapers, changed back everyday to the stock launcher to clean the carousel, yada yada yada.
We'll see but I still would not know how to be able to attribute a crash to GO specifically. Last edited by robertc88; 02-09-2012 at 07:05 PM. |

Hi
With Some trepidation and after much research I installed GO Launcher EX version 2.78 yesterday along with "rotating wall paper" on my kindle Fire ver 6.22 Thankfully I have not had any problems!!. I am NOT using any Custom third party themes For GL EX just the default one plus some Nice Dark wallpaper images ,nine in total, that I put in My "pictures" Folder and added to rotating wall papers . I rarely, if ever, completely shut down my kindle as I use it Daily and simply charge it every night in Sleep mode. I did do an Immediately complete restart to make sure it would start up correctly. After installing GL EX I have the stock Amazon launcher app in my dock making me just one click away from retuning to the stock launcher. I also have the actual Amazon Kindle book reading application there also. tapping either one takes me right back to the book I was last reading on the book marked page. I was very weary of installing GO Launcher EX after reading a few "bricked device" horror stories. My kindle is nearly full ( 980 megs left) I have a few decent games 2D& 3D and 3 Gigs of Comic books from Dark hoarse, Marvel& DC that I have not read yet using the excellent comic reader mobi app ![]() My Device tinkering period is over My advice, if so inclined, is to get the latest NON beta Version from the GL developers web site( 2.78) Dont rush to update it with every new build.. and DONT "Root " your Device Cheers Anabran |
