I've dropped my KW many a time without breaking it. In fact, it took my 300 lb husband leaning on the screen with his elbow to break it.

It's true that you catch something at the right - or wrong - angle it will break. Case study: I dropped my cell phone off a roof last winter but other than a few scrapes the phone was fine. I fumbled it in the car and it broke falling nine inches into the footwell!

Every time my mother sees my Sony reader, she exclaims about how nice it is that I have a cover, and says it's too bad there are no Kindle covers. I keep telling her that there are HUNDREDS of Kindle covers on Amazon, but she never gets around to looking. She keeps her Kindle in one of the pockets in her laptop bag, naked.

True, but given enough time you will heal from the broken bone (though I'm sure it wouldn't be pleasant) but your Kindle won't bounce back from being broken. At best it'll still be covered by the warranty and Amazon will replace it, at worst you're out the cost of buying a new Kindle and in either case you end up having to be without a Kindle while the unit is being replaced.
