I haven't encountered this issue yet. I'm using a Mac if it matters. I use calibre in addition to connecting to my computer to charge or add fonts.

Just happened to me AGAIN. I'm not going to waste another hour doing a factory reset. Will just ignore it until it drives me mad.

I've had two errors in the three days I've had the unit! I am convinced that the attaching to a PC is a red herring in the problem.

Got the same issue today. I was using the Kobo since one month now and decided to update it and add a few books since I leave town tomorrow.
Not quite funny to loose all my library just before leaving. I'll reput my books on and I wish I won't get any trouble during my vacation. If I do, I'll ask to be refunded in full. |

I was having the issue for awhile, it stopped, and now it's happening again. I'm so tired of having to reload books on my Kobo and reauthorize ADE that I'm going to try using my Mac instead and if that doesn't work, I won't be buying any more Kobo books and will go back to my Kindle.

This is the response I got to my ticket on the 9th August. Hope the fix is soon...

If I get the Factory reset thingy again and I choose "Cancel" instead, can I continue reading my books? If so, that would do the trick while in vacation.

Pressing cancel doesn't work for me. It makes me go through Kobo setup AGAIN. EVERY. TIME. (When I got the error before, it did let me cancel, but not anymore.)

i did a factory reset and now the kobo won't connect to my PC to do the first time setup... it only goes into charging mode and then disconnects and reconnects every few seconds

Harley; if you want to "discuss" the issue with them, don't even mention Calibre; rather say you are using ADE to load books on to the Kobo. Remember, ADE can load books that are either DRM encumbered or DRM free

Thanks for the suggestion Peter but this problem does seem to be quite common. I think I will just let my ticket with Kobo die rather than go through any further aggravation with them and wait for someone here on MR to post when they fix the issue.
In the meantime I am starting to enjoy reading on our iPad which happily loads all my books purchased from Kobo, Borders, Amazon - anywhere really. I've also been looking at the Big W and Dick Smith websites to check out the Kindle which will be available in Australia in a few weeks - if Kobo doesn't fix the problem soon I might just be tempted. Although I hate the look of that keyboard thing at the bottom - maybe I need to wait for the rumoured release of the next Kindle .... |
