exactly. and I know this from the communications side of my life. BUT! because I don't have a peer reviewed journal citation to quote from, my knowledge is worthless here

Which would you rather be sitting next to? Someone with an electronic device turned on during take-off or landing or this person? http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...ectid=10735384
I am petrified of flying and bury myself in a book or magazine. When I got on the plane recently I was asked to turn my ereader off and of course had nothing else. So I found myself reading the duty free brochure and emergency card (not good for a nervous flyer!). But at least the person sitting next to me used the toilet.

I don't fly often (prefer the car), but the last time, I was reading on the airport (waiting in line for boarding). And I never turn off my reader, I simply lock it. My PDA can't even be turned off. Or I must remove the battery. And I found out (when we'd landed) that I hadn't turned off my phone either. I always forget that thing... (it was somewhere in the bottom of my stuffed bag...)

I take my reader on the beach. Last year was the PRS600, this year will be the Kindle. We go to a public beach. We keep the valuables in a bag, sort of hidden away. And forget about it.

The problem is that on the beach, with the 4 years old daughter, there is not much free time to read

Probably not, and a camera will pay a better dividend on your time in that situation anyway.

Before you know it they are graduating college.

Thank you. Actually, she is very interested in the camera, so she will have it for herself. There is more than a month before we go, so she will have time to practice. And we'll buy a new one.

Thanks for all of the well wishes. My fingers and toes will be crossed.

I think if we stay at the resort I will wait until I meet some people. If we decide to rent a condo I think I should be fine there as it is a small community.

I'm VERY interested in knowing how you kept the touchscreen (that IS a Sony on the right, right?) from responding every time the plastic brushed it?

Haha, but what about those of us who take vacations to get away from the daily routine so that we CAN read?

I fit into that category, for sure. I'm actually looking forward to a major surgery because "maybe I'll get some reading done".

The sony touchscreen is optical, and the drybag is clear.
Actually you can not turn pages with the touchscreen in the dry bag, you have to use the hardware buttons.

Fascinating, thank you. I have a 950, and I just assumed that a plastic bag (I have one for my Nook and one for my PB360) wouldn't work. I'll have to get a 950 sized one now. Thanks!

I had surgery a month or so ago (minor not major). I didn't get as much reading done as I hoped to - nothing to do with the surgery or pain. It was because nearly every nurse, doctor or technician I came into contact with wanted to look at my ereader and find out how they worked and where they could buy one.

Next time you tell them its your magic book and you are not allowed to relate how it works to non-sorcerers. It works even better when having the reader in an Oberon Fairy cover...

this is a good enough story, I've told it before here, but worth another telling... last January I had a knee replacement which requires a 3 day stay. my Kindle was an inseparable part of the whole deal. I managed to to acquire about 8 pillows which is a LOT of pillows in a hospital bed. quite often I would nod off with the kindle in my hand and it would disappear somewhere into the bedding. one early morning at about 3 a.m., I was frantically searching through the pillows all while connected to my IV and the ice machine keeping my knee cold. I'm sure I was quite the site. a technician came in to check vitals that I had not seen before and after her surprised; "Darlin' what on earth are you doin'!?" (she was very southern), I told her; "I've lost my kindle somewhere in the bed and I need to have it to go to sleep!" she blinked at me a couple of times and said; "You've lost your Ken Doll!?"
