Takeover? Probably not

Some have mused that another company has bought enTourage, and that enTourage will continue to hum along.

If you want to see what a normal tech takeover looks like, look at http://www.stardock.com/about/newsitem.asp?id=2558.

enTourage is not showing any of these characteristics.

True, someone may have bought enTourage, but likely with no intent for enTourage to continue operations, or even its products to continue to develop (otherwise why can you no longer buy or even read about the eDGes on the enTourage site?).

Here's my best guess: Get the Beta while you can, we may get lucky with some small fixes and maybe a "Final Version" slapped on, but this is the last company effort. I believe the intellectual property rights were bought but the end of the company as we know it is afoot. April could very well be the last month we see Entourage as a company.

Supposedly, Entourage is still exhibiting at some campus tech 2011 show in Boston later this summer.

Is there any way to get a spare pocket edge battery?

No - the Pocket eDGe's battery is built in. It should last at least 3 years, and when it fails, enTourage will replace it for a fee.

See http://www.entourageedge.com/forums/...t-eDGe-Battery.

Who will replace it in three years? That's just too much sarcasm. You're being mean.

True. Mind you, who keeps a gadget for more than 3 years these days other than a negligible group? The way portable technology is speeding along, the PE in 3 years will seem like those luggable cell phones from the 80's.

The PE battery seems far more reliable than the removable EE battery, so chances are the device would wear out before the battery anyway, if a dead battery is what you're worried about.

If you want a spare for backup during a long day, the simply closing the PE when you're not using it reduces power consumption to zero thanks to the Ermine release. You get 5-6 hours of run-time, which is when the PE is open. That means if you have it closed 4 hours and open 5 hours, you have a total time span of 9 hours where previously you'd get just 5.

So obviously I'm a newbie. How do I know if I've updated w/ the Ermine release?

You need to opt in to the beta, from your edge and then hit the update button.

Shipping charge is around $5.00

hi,
I'm curious, is using this solution awkward at all?
Also how much more time, if any, does this option give over the battery?

thanks

"Use once-and-throwaway", "Planned obsolescence"

I hope instead that in three years we will develop something like a first idea about how are we damaging our planet with this way of life.
We dont need more powerful devices, we need a policy to dramatically reduce non recyclable waste

unless someone can point me in the right direction, the batteries are no longer available. everywhere I look shows that the batteries are discontinued. I will probably have to go the energizer route.
kind of sucks.

If your battery has failed have you attempted to get warranty support?
