Chubulor, I first read about the early access program in July or August, when I was suggesting to my husband that he not buy another device and instead wait on the Adam. Count with me, now: August, 1. September, 2. October, 3. Today is Nov. 4. I think "three" meets the qualification for plural. Your insistence on intepreting everything literally seems to have led you to miss the larger point, one we agree on, I think: Companies can say anything they want--and they'd be wise not to disappoint customers with claims they can't meet--but it's pretty meaningless until they get the devices into customers' hands.

Good to see you haven't changed either, NT. Exaggerating* your points and then blaming other people for assuming you actually meant what you wrote... it reminds me of another thread of yore that we may not want to revisit.

The Early Access program was announced here on August 30, 2010, by the way, making it barely 2 months since the announcement. My memory was off by a month, I admit, but the larger point, that your claim of "looking more like vaporware every day" was off-base, stands. There was no promise of a date for getting the device into developers' hands at that time, certainly not by four days later on September 3, which would be the latest date that could have qualified as 2 months or longer before the date of your original post.

Okay, citizens, let's not get too excited about making your points. I think you are both right. And good looking. And whip smart. And did I say good looking? Make love, not flames.

Just found this update on Adam info today. They are claiming pre-orders to begin in December. Sounds like the product is sitting with the FCC right now.

Yeah, the Notion Ink blog had that yesterday. Still no precise release date. I wonder why Adam gets cut so much slack from people here about pushing their release dates back and back, but Entourage announces a Fall update and the first day of Fall, everyone yells at them because it's not out yet. Doesn't make any sense to me.

I'm certainly not cutting them any slack. I stopped waiting on the Adam in May.... that's when I bought my Edge... and I haven't looked back.

I did the same, but I'm still hoping the Adam materializes. I'm happy with my eDGe, but my other half wants an Adam.

Reminds me of the Courier fans on engadget who foamed at the mouth over something that was only demonstrated as a video of a simulation of a user interface. They're still talking about it as if it were a real tablet/reader.

I think the Adam's main alure is the PixelQi screen, but otherwise it's the Android version of the iPad. As such, it will still lack the dual-screen benefits offered by the eDGe, and from what I hear PixelQi doesn't compare well to the readability of the eDGe's grayscale eInk. I guess what I'm saying is that the Adam will effectively attract the same customer base as any other slate, which is different from the eDGe customer base.

dontpanic, as a Sith Lord you're supposed to enjoy rage, hate, and general discord. Maybe you should change your category to Care Bear.

Maybe because I haven't paid Notion Ink for a device yet?

There's a customer base in between that might be willing to give up a bit of readability in return for a lighter device that performs most of the same functions and comes with 2.2 out of the box. Very, very few people are going to be doing things that require paying attention to both screens of the Edge simultaneously (ie, in a way that can't be duplicated by switching between windows on a single screen).

As Borisb said, Froyo is necessary due to the minimum app requirements now which is one of the reasons the delay is a disappointment. Also, I was also really hoping for the speed boost when it is released but that doesn't sound hopeful. It sounds like once they get it working we'll be lucky if we keep it at the speed it's at now.

I was playing with the newest Kindle recently and the new Pearl display is really nice but what really impressed me was the speed at which the screen redrew. For an e-reader it was fast. I would love to see that speed on the Edge.

What I need to see on the Edge to make me really happy:

1. Big speed improvements for the tablet and e-reader. It does feel rather sluggish.
2. Market access (I know this is a Google issue)
3. Landscape mode on the e-reader.
4. SDK release - I want to develop for the Edge but I am not interest in only developing for the Tablet side so the SDK would be great.

I still recognize the Edge for what it is - a very useful tool, but, there is definitely room for improvement.

You people have lied regarding this release with such regularity that I'm not expecting a **** thing from your firm any longer. I bought in April of '10. At that time the promise was that the firm would release an upgrade to Android 2.1 by early summer. Which, of course, was a promise not met. Then the firm said in mid summer that it would release an upgrade to 2.2 in early fall. Instead, you've released a new product line.

I give up. I won't buy any other products from Entourage. I simply don't trust this firm any longer. I will, however, cheer loudly upon learning the news that the firm has declared Chapter 7.

Customer disappointment and frustration is not something to trivialize. Some of us roll with the punches (allowing for "stuff happens") while for others it's not so easy to get past something. While the majority may not share the extent of maynard's disappointment, we should still respect maynard's opinion.
