No, I'd have to use a pointer for that...

Isn't there something what would allow me to use the WiiMote for that?

Yes I believe there's a mod for that, next version will be standard. Not having to replace batteries (no remote) would be a reason to upgrade

well, the problem is that our mediacenter pc is nicely tucked away... So, if you had something that wouldn't require a remote anymore, it would have to be something like the wii sensor bar, something you put underneath (or above) your tv. But a sensor bar that would recognize gestures would be awesome, I agree!

I'm not buying into that until they make a device that responds to my brain waves. Remotes are so last decade.

Or a disaster. I was fighting with my brothers for the remote when I was younger. Can you imagine children dancing in front of the tv to change the channel?

I expect Kinect version 2 to recognize gestures and it might be packaged into new computer/televisions, or sold as part of package deal. Channels are a relic of broadcasting over the spectrum, soon to be loading up shows from the cloud more often.

I did a test of the Windows 7 search function today. I searched for a file by a fragment of its name.

1) Searching from the start button field found it.
2) Searching from the root folder of C: did not find it.

Huh? why not? It should just work, just like it did in XP.

I did another search using the search field in the top right of the explorer box. I didn't find the file even though I was in the folder!!!!

Do a google search of *Windows 7 search sucks*. It doesn't matter though. MS doesn't care.

Don't you know the exact location of every file you have?

Linux rulzes anyway

More seriously, vista's not so good. It's laggy, and lots of "unfinished" stuff.
Win 7 is flashy, ergonomic, not too heavy going. I rather like it.

Looks interesting! I read a sci-fi novel, some years ago, where one of the main characters could control machines with the help of a device. I'm pretty sure the device was bigger than just head gear. I hope to see something like this in shops in the near future.

emellaich,

You are not the only "old dog" out there. The question is -- who is in control
you or Apple. Walled garden = walled prison.

What you want is something like Kinect.

The Wii "sensor bar" is just a set of IR lights BTW. It doesn't really sense anything.

Here's one: if you select more than 20 or so items in Explorer, win7 will not tell you the total file size. It's monumentally stupid.
